Put it in neutral or turn the tractor off... Works every time for me. lolBecause with no working pto brake the stub turns constantly so tell us how do you attach a pto shaft to a rotating stub?

Lightbulb moment... I will try that when I'm mowing this weekend! My manual only shows two options "540" and "540-E" but if there is a neutral between them, I will see if that lets me push in the clutch & then "clutch" into the PTO engagement which should definitely smooth out the issue! if so, that would have saved quite a bit of headache & I'm sure wear/tear on the gearboxes! None of the orientations or any of the dealers techs etc ever had a solution.. My old tractor let you clutch into the PTO but it only had two settings: ON or OFF(neutral)!Put the PTO in Neutral.
If it has those two speeds, it will have a Neutral somewhere for sure. That's the trick to connect PTO shafts on PTOs with brake. Just put it in Neutral and rotate the shaft by hand as needed to connect the PTO shaft.Lightbulb moment... I will try that when I'm mowing this weekend! My 1975 MF 135 also has a Ground Speed selection for the PTO. PTO spins in direct relation to the ground travel speed. Old school stuff I suppose. Do any modern tractors have that PTO choice?Lightbulb moment... I will try that when I'm mowing this weekend! Most European tractors, like SAME, Antonio Carraro, Deutz, etc, do retain that feature and it's still used a lot in countries with lots of mountains and hills with PTO driven trailers. My 1975 MF 135 also has a Ground Speed selection for the PTO. Cheap Chinese equipment.you get what ya pay for!!Oh yes, I always drop the rpms down to idle for the RC, and I put gr8 bolt in... it was breaking the gr5's pretty easily hitting minor stuff like ant hills.... Maybe a bad idea but my RC has a nice round stump jumper so it should fold the blades and save itself? I guess from your experience I know I don't want to break the input shaft on the cutter, as stuff will be flailing around!
I have ran a small square baler and it started up pretty smoothly as well. I'd have to look at my service manual tonight, but I'm quite sure there is still a pto clutch, its just engaged hydraulically now when you flick the switch.
My Korean tractor? or you mean my rotary cutter? I almost bought an Indian JD but researched why so many were for sale with around 1-200 hours on them and for so cheap...Cheap Chinese equipment.you get what ya pay for!!
