I have no streetlight near my home, my mail is delivered to a box on the street... and they just ripped out my sidewalk as part of the town's "economy version" street reconstruction project. That particular aspect of the project is fine with me! :) We do have street side trash pick-up now that they closed the dump, but we pay through the nose for it. I'd LOVE to go back to a dump if it would save me money.

Well we have changed the name from Dump to Transfer Station and Recycling Center (which is all volunteer at this time) and they do let us pick through the stuff that has been set aside that might be of interest to someone. One person痴 junk another person痴 gold! I have made a pack with the wife that I will never bring home more than I take.

I too miss the old dump, it was always a good place to just meet and talk to old buddies, rumage through stuff and there was always one heck of a fire there once or twice a year. Now it has a regular road into it, building to hold the recycable items, compactors, **** reall modern place.

Thanks Brother Wayne. Keep the border open long enough for one last "economic refugee" from Taxachusetts to make his escape! ;)

You just pack that truck up and drive north. Actually, I wish we could go further north like into the great woods, but it isn't in the cards for us. I guess I shouldn't complain as we live in a town of less than 2,500 people, and just a few years ago got a our own zip code. I personally think that was the turning point for our little out of the way town!

A dump should be called a dump. Simple as that. I don't go for this "Transfer Station and Recycling Center" baloney. Everything has got to be so politically correct these days. I guess Al Gore must be kept happy or he will eat the whole planet. Anyway, sad to see that silly Massachusetts brand of political correctness come to the glorious land of "Live Free or Die." :(

Yep... that's how it starts. It all begins so innocently with establishment of a zip code. Next it's a traffic light and then it's all downhill from there.

Actually in our town (and many others) it truly is a transfer station. The trash is transferred to some other location where it is then dumped.
We have voluntary recycling and from what I see, fairly good participation.

I am apparently a dinosaur in this regard. To me, a dump is a dump is a dump. Doesn't matter if they want to haul it off to another dump or to an incinerator or waste-to-energy plant or anywhere else. To me, it is still a place where I *dump* my rubbish.

Must admit that until all or most recycling becomes real recycling (in a true net positive energy saving sense), I am not a big fan. Saw far too much outright fake and politically correct recycling in my career I guess. I'm way too old and jaded. Right now, I only have faith in thermal recycling and separation at the waste-to-energy plants.

Yes and I still tell the wife I am going to the dump, and she knows where I am going. Upon returning she will always ask with a big smile, "What ya drag home this time?" There were so many times when we were younger that I always seemed to bring home more than I took!

I guess I view recycling as when you have an old tool you know longer want take it to the dump, place it gently on the ground so other people can come by and look at it and one of the will take it home for recycling!

Last year I took home a 36 gallon sprayer with good wheels and hitch, only problem was one of the sprayer nozzles was missing. 95 cents later it was replaced and the sprayer works great. Now I have no need for it and it sit over next to the other implements waiting, but it is something that can be used one of these days.
