It is not an issue of "you make the call" or "may or may not have been correct." The CANSPAM Act of 2003 was signed into law by the President and became effective Jan. 1, 2004.
The CANSPAM Law provides criminal and civil penalties for, among other things, "harvesting” of email addresses from web sites without permission. Sending of unsolicited email to such addresses is still another offense.
