Tractor
Mahindra Emax 22
Hi All, I have a Mahindra Emax right now with FEL and MMM, but plan to get another larger tractor at one point down the road, probably the 3616. I want to get a trailer to haul it. I also want an enclosed trailer as my wife and I plan to have 2 homes, one for summer and another down south to winter. I will not be hauling the tractor back and forth, but the enclosed trailer will be nice to haul our other items back and forth. Is this possible with an enclosed trailer? I am thinking of something like a 7 by 14 7K rated. I hope this will work out for me and save me some money b/c I need something for some general hauling of the tractor and also other items here and there, and I really do not want to get an equipment trailer and an enclosed trailer too if possible. Any and all feedback is welcome.

Thanks

You need to tie down the front, too. Will 7' let you walk beside the tractor? I have a backhoe so 14' would be way too short for an enclosed trailer for me.

Just sayin', measure carefully... not just for theoretical fit, but useful fit.

I would go 8' wide at a minimum and 16 or 18' long.

14' is just not long enough.

Back in 2011 I found this Express cargo trailer on craigslist. Used it to move stuff to the new shop.

The side door would be handy for tying down the front of the tractor.

Height on the door is a concern for me for a tractor.

Enclosed Car Haulers is what you need, the side door or escape door is really handy getting out of a car, would make exiting from the front of the tractor possible for you.

I would say 14ft would work but just barely, I feel you would like a 16ft better for hauling a tractor, my buddy has a 16+2 equipment trailer and my 4320 with forks didn't fit within the 16ft deck, I had to have the forks hang off the front of the trailer to get the rear tires up, I was also hauling back a round bale feeder which took up every last inch the tractor didn't.

With enclosed you don't have the luxury of letting stuff hang over the front or rear of the trailer, it has to be 'packed' inside.

For an Emax I feel 18 will be too big, I feel 14 will work but be cramped, I would suggest 16ft. If you plan to get a bigger tractor or want to haul an attachment behind the mower that adds another 5-7ft on the tractor. Which is why a longer trailer would be really nice.

Keep in mind the trailer will be 2500lbs-3500lbs I would guess which cuts what you can haul with 3500lb axles, with a emax that's not as much of a concern, with a bigger tractor I would be if you ever upgrade.

Edit: just looked it up, says the mahindra 22emax is around 8.5ft idk if that's with or without the loader, if the loader was 4ft more with a bucket were at 12.5 ft, you could do a 14ft but I personally would like the extra room to haul more than just the tractor in the trailer, with a 16ft would could have a rear blade hanging off the tractor comfortably, worst case is take a tape measure, get a really accurate measurements of the tractor width, height and length, go to a trailer lot and look around and measure on the floor of a trailer the dimensions of the tractor. And chose the one most comfortable.

Hopefully folded ROPs will clear an enclosed trailer.

+1 on going bigger. It generally doesn't add much weight but just like a garage, they are never big enough for some reason.

But remember you have to be able to balance your load, so you may need to move the tractor back or forward, thus needing additional length.

I see most covered trailers turned into storage lockers when not in use lol

Bean - seems like your ideas would be pushing the limits of size and weight. I recommend upsizing.

If you are going to get a bigger tractor, then use those dimensions to dictait the size of your trailer. ALSO allow for moving the tractor forward or backward to get the best balance to travel safely. I think you will find that 14' shrinks to too small very quickly. More volume for the same gross weight = easier packing.
You did not say of any restriction on parking space at your homes.
Good luck in your search.

Sometimes true I'm sure---Thought about buying a 20' enclosed tandem and keep my quad and ZT in it when not in use--The boss preferred a 2 stall shed, and a shed it is. I'll just stick with my 16' open tandem for now.

Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions. I think that a 16 footer will be best. Yes, it will be for storage when not in use, which will free up some space in the garage! I forgot about the doors on this unit. Can it take the weight of a tractor? for a 7K weighted one they say I can haul about 4900 pounds in it. If I get the barn door model where do you get ramps at to drive the tractor over?

Thanks again for all the great advice! it really helps me out

you can also block the ramp door with 4x4, 6x6, etc to give it some extra support. i would also go with a 20ft or longer trailer.

Good to question door strength. The fall down doors seem pretty flimsy to me. Maybe for a dirt bike or something but a tractor with loaded tires and a weight box would put 3000# on the center of the door.

I'd plan on 18 foot long and 10K GVW. I had not seen any mention of loaded tires and extra weights. This along with several hundred pounds of ramps, fuel, chains etc. could easily be pushing 4,900 lbs.

I had an expensive enclosed ATC seamless rubber floored trailer for vintage cars and got rid of it. a flatbed is so much easier and you might find that you don't have enough height with an enclosed trailer for your tractor or mowers. my cab as an example, or mower with ROPS would not fit under the roof of my enclosed trailer. I got an 18 foot American Hauler with wood deck and it works for everything from cars to cab tractors.

Ditto this.

the longer will pull better ( easier to ballance weight, so no teeter totter with tounge ).. and it will be easier to back up.

figure the max length you will need, then add 2 feet. ;)

I have Rice 14K MAGNUM trailer. Its 20 Foot with a 2 Foot dovetail with regular ramps. Wood floor, toolbox, Double axle, stake pockets, etc. Very tough, very easy to pull. I can pull it behind my 3/4 ton Ford F250. I LOVE IT!!!! It has brakes too. I put a 7 thousand pound tractor, filled with gallons and gallons of diesel and almost a one thousand pound rear blade. The trailer dosen't sink that much. If I were you I would check out Rice Trailers Fully Powder Coated Built in USA

So many trailer manufacturers to choose from...

If you are going south anyway you will hit the majority of USA trailer manufactures. I'm in a similar boat and was able to get exactly what I wanted for less than any of the major brands- with better quality.

I would TRY to STAY AWAY from powder coating!
The manufacturers tout it as being the best, but it is a brittle coating, and chips easily.
Then too: There is good powder coating, and poor powder coating.
My 14K equipment trailer IS powder coated.
I wish it were NOT!
Two part epoxy paint is much more forgiving of damage, and is easily retouched.
