TRAILER FOR BX24

here's the way it arrived from the dealership. yes, the dealer. note the over-loaded tires and single axle, lack of adequate tie downs, pretty illegal looking bucket overhang, excessive tongue weight, high center of gravity, etc.

i'm much more comfortable driving down the road at 70 mph with the new set up in the post above. sure, it fit on the dealership trailer, but that's about all you can say positive about their set up.

Ampsucker, A quick look at the first picture I thought you had shag carpet on the trailer! A closer look it's just ice. Whew! I thought somebody had really gone over the edge!:D :D

Surge brakes are illegal in MANY states (including PA, I think). Better check. They are also a more expensive option.

The feds changed the law on surge brakes- they are now legal under federal law for interstate commerce and many if not all states that had state laws against them have overturned their laws. They are legal in PA.
I've had them on a couple of boat trailers and they worked quite well. These were the newer ones with the hydraulic damping cylinder to stop the oscillation common in older units. I prefer electric brakes but surge brakes are way better than nothing...

Yeah, I saw that from another poster recently. Interesting, as the article states: "For trailers with Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWRs) of less than 12,000 lbs., the regulation approves surge brake use for vehicle-to-trailer GVWR ratios of 1:1.175. For trailers between 12,000 and 20,000 lbs., the regulation approves use for vehicle-to-trailer GVWR ratios of 1:1.25."

Now, we can throw that calculation into the mix. Folks on this site asking for advice on "what size trailer" will be getting their calculators out. Frankly, I'm getting a little tired of seeing the same questions arise about trailer capacities. It's really pretty simple math.

What kind of truck would have a bed long enough for a BX24 with the FEL and BH mounted? Seems it would be too long for even a pickup with an 8' box unless the FEL was raised above the cab and the BH hung out the back.

You could remove the bh and fel and deck. Load the tractor in the bed. Put the attachments on a tow behind single axle trailer.

Here is what I use. 16' dual 3500# axle with brakes on both axles. Kind of overkill for the bx but about maxed out with my @5000# jeep on it.

Is the left front tire on your tractor low, or do you pull down hard enough on the chains for the tire to flatten that much?

I like your set up. How much could I expect to pay for a trailer like that?

I also like several of the other trailers but some of them look expensive.
