depends on the state - In NY its required to have brakes on both axles for trailers rated for 3500lbs and above, so a 7k rated trailer would need 2 brakes.
No dealer around here will be allowed to sell a trailer without 2 brakes based on the weight limits above...

I got a 16' car hauler for $500 on craigs list. I'll more than likely spend another $500 putting brakes, lights, paint, jacks, fenders, tool box on it but not only will the little tractor fit it is wide enough for my jeep to drive over the tires/fenders and have the wheels on the deck.

That was a good deal i looked on craigs list but nothing in my area. I saw a lot of good deals on ebay but none of them were close enough. I looked at bigtex but there prices are way out of line. I am goin this week to another local trailer dealer i ordered a perkins trailer for my lawn business and they seemed to have the best price around my area. I am gonna price a 18 and 20 foot car hauler wood floor brakes on both axles. I am trying to stay under 2000.00 plus tt&l.

I just looked on Northern tool's website and they don't seem to offer a trailer in this size range.

For those of us in Mass, where did you buy it, and are you happy with the dealer/trailer?

In Upstate NY new trailers are expensive. At least compared to some prices in other states I've seen here on TBN. I checked with most every dealer within 70 miles of my house then ended up driving to PA to buy my new H&H 20' tiltbed trailer (there is no H&H dealer in NY). Including fuel down and back I saved over $1K of what a similar trailer would have cost me here. I prefer a wood deck especially in winter, its less slippery than a metal deck. I wanted a new 20' trailers that had 82" between the fenders. Trailers this length and width are not under the $3K price here. Dealers want that much or more. In the $2-3K range the only thing you can find is a utility / contractor type trailer under 76" wide and if you want use the trailer for multi use such as hauling a full size truck 76" width doesn't cut it.

I just purchased a 16' with dual 3500# axles here in utah for $1000 to haul my Kubota b3030hsdc. I watched the papers and local sites for a while and finally found this one that is in good shape (about 5 yrs old). I need to put breakes on one axle and that will cost me about 175.00 but other than that it is in good shape. if you have the time to wait and you don't need it brand new, you can save lots of money.
