After having a 40' fifth wheel travel trailer with 3 7k axles, I swore that I would never buy another 3 axle trailer. I would have preferred a trailer with 2 10k axles.
When I was looking for a cargo trailer there was an over abundance of 3 axles w/ either 3.5k or 5k axles. I finally found a tandem trailer that had the capacity I was looking for.
Some times I think the mfg use 3 light axles because they are probably cheaper that 2 heavy rated axles.
Its weird how peoples views are so different. I can think of 5 or 6 of my boating buddies who bought the tri axle over a HD 2 axle. If its over 10,000# its Tri Axle for me only.
Getting back to 10K and 12K tandem Dually trailers, I had one. It was a 25'GN with a 5'BT. Dual 12K tandem dually axles. Hated that setup. I would have much rather had 3 7K axles and taken the weight hit.
