I just got a 6.0 around the first of the year. Had a 17 450 and 13 250 then add in some 5.9s, 6.2s, 6.6, 7.3 and a couple 6.7s.

There’s someone else that has a similar screen name to me with the “e” and “l” swapped

If money was the same I’d still rather have my Big Tex with mega ramps over a tilt trailer. No good way load stuff on the trailer and then load the machine. If you spent some of that money I saved and put hydraulics on the ramps I’m not sure what advantage the tilt trailer has anymore. With that being said I’m looking for a light duty tilt trailer to haul my side by side, Grasshopper, and tractor. 1 at a time obviously. Since tilt trailers are expensive I’ll probably end up with another ramp trailer.

If the money was the same,I'd go for a rollback tow truck. But the money isn't the same for a tilt trailer nor rollback wrecker when compared to a trailer with ramps. With all that out of the way,time is money and tilt trailers and rollbacks pay for themselves when used all day every day. Neither a tilt nor rollback make's sense when it sit's idle 99% of the time. If you go back to my first post,you'll notice I have to improvise once in a while but the majority of my hauling is best served by ladder ramps so that's what I have.

Funny you should be needing a trailer that tilt's to haul those things. I've been building just such trailer to haul a SxS,zero turn,Cub 154 Lo-Boy and a single round bale. I started with a tilt boat trailer with a 2k axle but 4 hole 12" wheels. I installed 5 lug hubs and 16" wheels to gain tire carrying capacity that equal's axle rating. I cut about 3' off tongue,turned winch pedestal around so that it slant's toward rear. Installed better winch to pull front of loaded trailer up to full tilt (about 20*) or drag things up onto trailer. Once trailer is tilted (by hand if empty,by winch if loaded) the same 5/16 grade 5 pin that secure's tongue in transport position hold's it at tilt so winch can be used to pull things on or lower off trailer. I haven't desighned ramp but it will only need to be be about 18". 2 x 3 x 1/4 angle bolted across boat trailer frame where it narrow's to 11" at front is main support for deck. You or someone might find something they can use if into diy. I also told folks about it for another reason. Some of the loafers who came by said they would make it heavier duty so it could be more versatile. My usual response was "I'm making it flimsy so people will be afraid to borrow it." I already have a bumper pull trailer but I wanted something that can be moved around by hand and pulled with a suv or lite truck. I also have a 22' deckover fifth wheelxgoose neck that grandkids don't have hitches for.

As in light duty I need tandem 3500 pound axels. That’s about the minimum to haul the tractor and trailer itself.

I checked out some Diamond C tilt trailers in Seguin at D&D a couple weeks ago. None of this is an issue with a tilt trailer. Making a tilt look better all the time.

I can't see any good reason to buy a tilt. Sure, they're great, when they work. I used a PJ gooseneck tilt that decided not to stay tilted or locked after driving 100 miles to pick up a motorhome. We made do with redneck ingenuity, but it added several frustrating hours to our day. I prefer the "ladder ramps" as they are more versatile. Want to load a bunch of UTV's? Mount the ramps on the sides instead of the rear. Always use dropleg stands or independent stands, on the rear, to keep the ball from shearing. Remember, the load will weigh the trailer down, don't pin the stands at the top, give it an inch, or two, depending on the weight of the load.

I prefer the hinged ramps over the loose ramps that you have to put in the side. The spring loaded hinged ramps are fast and trouble free. The loose ramps are a pain and become an impractical option as the capacity increases.

I have never used a tilt trailer. I have used landscape trailers, equipment trailers and my deck over trailer.

I like my deck over a lot, I like the ramp I had built a whole lot. I’m happy with that trailer except for the brakes, something I have to work on yet.

It’s all about what people need to haul, like tractors there is not a one style fits all trailer.

I don’t care for how steep the climb is to the top of my deck over, it hasn’t been a issue yet but my gate is all one piece, no need to worry about having ramps lined up etc but that gate can’t be bought on a new trailer. I would imagine a tilt trailer would have similar benefits because you drive up a solid deck, that would be a plus if you plan to load things that are wider than one another.

I’m pretty sure you are the one I’m thinking about, the guy who trailered his new F450 home and has gone threw quite a few tractors in the last few years. 5075E and 5100E’s I believe.

Ahhh. Had the 450 for a year. Slowed down to spend more time with my wife and 5yo. 450 was sitting nearly every day and I was driving my 350 which was more of a farm truck but still real nice. Rather put the miles on the 05 instead of the 450. Ended up selling it and while I miss things about it I’m partial to the 350. No worries about driving it all over the place because I’m not killing the value. We have had several tractors over the years though. I think I’ve just about got things set up for what works for us.

I’m a fireman 9-11 days per month. I do very little mowing on the side (100ish acres per year) but my spraying has taken off and I do a lot of that on my days off. It’s something I can do while my son is in school
