Trailer sway

That might be a little pricy for my operation. I am thinking about mounting an airbag on my tiltbed, though. That sounds like a good idea.

Al, first, in the interest of full disclosure I want to tell you that I happen to be a dealer for these trailers. The manufacturer is Southern Sales. In this instance I don't think you have to temper a whole lot of what I tell you with that knowledge, however.

The one I have and use is an older 26' (22' bed) model I took back in trade a while ago. It is equipped with a hydraulic tilt bed powered by an electric motor. The unit is 100% self contained as it has a battery on board. There is a platform on the front for a winch which is also powered from the on board battery. My customer put his winch on his new one so I use one I had. I also added connections for a work light I can move around to help with making attachments at night and connections for towing lights for added visibility.

Another "after market" thing I did was to run a line so that if the trailer battery is dead I can power everything from the towing vehicle (in case I forget to turn off that work light, for example /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif ).

The trailers are also available without the platform for towing a second vehicle, with a manual hydraulic system and no winch for a more basic unit. There are different lengths available and some other options including a choice of colors. I don't have a picture here but will try to remember to get one to post for you.

Bgott, you'd be surprised how many people are coming to realize how much better off they are with something like this Pete rather than spending $30K plus on a 'super' dually pickup truck. This used Pete can be had for less and will outlast a new 'super' dually pickup of any emblem and handle whatever you ask of it without breaking a sweat. The only "catch" is you absolutely need a CDL for one of these where with the 'super' dually pickups it's still a matter of interpretation. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Here is a 74 Chev 3/4 ton with a 4 link and airbags. I had the box off to replace it with an Astoria fiberglass and aluminum utility. The Stahl box had rusted just about away.

Scott, if you have a "come-along", if not they are only about $25 for a 1 ton, maybe you can back the bushhog onto the trailer, unhook it, turn it sideways, attach the come-along to the rear-facing edge and something up front and hoist the thing vertical and secure it, then move the tractor where you need it.

The Pete is really "overkill" with my 26' flatbed, but if I get the two of them in the same place in the next couple days I'll try to remember to take a picture and post it here. Right now the Pete is at my office while the trailer is at the barn/shop for some new lights. Someone "bumped" it when it was parked out back last week. I do have my ugly orange 1990 F-450 dump truck out there, too, if a picture of that would interest you. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I am thinking about disconnectiong the hog and back it on the trailer and carrying it with my 4 in 1 and parking with hog under the loader.

Glad to see another dodge ram owner! I trailer horses around a bit, and when doing this, you get into the habit of kicking every tire, looking at the check chains, checking the hitch and wires, and all the door and side latches on the trailer ever time you leave your vehicle unatended ( like going into a restaurant and eating. ) A buddy of mine was parked at a restaurant, we left our trucks and trailers and horses loaded outside, and darned if somebody didn't come by and undo some latches and stuff. Glad we always are in the habit of checking.... Horses and fast moving pavement don't mix.
