wroughtn_harv,

Good points all,

I guess I've learned that a dual axle trailer is a minimum requirement. My Toyota is old ('91) but strong. It has a good hitch on it - the previous owner hauled a large trailer and large boat with it - and it is already wired for brake lights, etc. My only concern is brakes now. I would most definitely drive very slow and my current plan is to stick within the local area 10 miles or so. Thanks for your input as well, I'm not looking forward to that pucker string though/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Nah, don't worry about it. That phrase has been used by hundreds of fanatics....er.....enthusiasts like us. You're as welcome to it as the next guy.

Well, you did a lot better than I did this past weekend. I don't have a tractor (yet! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif) to play.....uh.....work with, so I couldn't do anything like that. And I wasn't able to get out and chase the ball either. Wifey and I installed a fountain in our patio, and then I got to do the obligatory weekend lawn work! /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

So,

What kind of machine are you leaning towards? Nice picture in your signature. I don't have a golf cart either. Sorry to hear you didn't get to go play this last weekend. We are prepping for another tournament and then in a month or so off to Eastern Washington to play one of the finest desert courses I've ever seen. "Don't tease the bullsnakes".

I'm looking for a 30 - 40 hp tractor, with hydro, FEL, rotary cutter, PHD, R4's, and mid pto. Right now I'm leaning toward the NH TC30, but I've still got a bunch of research to do. I've got a JD, Kubota, and NH dealer all within a 20 minute drive. So far, the NH dealer seems to be the most helpful, with JD next. The Kubota dealer just about literally threw a brochure at me and said if I had any questions to find him, and then he walked away. There are a lot of dealers that I can visit within a 2 hour drive, which I would consider if I find a good deal and a good dealer! I'd really like to take a ride on the Kioti DK35, but I don't have a dealer anywhere close. At this point in time, having my dealer within a reasonable distance is probably my number 1 priority. The good thing is that I have time before I really need to make a decision, so I'm taking it slow and easy.

/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif You gotta be more of an enthusiast (crazy /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif)than I am if you're out there messing around where bullsnakes live! No thank you!! I'll just stick with the occassional goose picking up the ball before I'd be playing tag with a snake!

I don't have any tournaments (charity events) scheduled until July, so until then it's my weekly golf league and my regular foursome on Sunday afternoons. I guess that's a good thing, the way my game's being going up and down this year. I started as an 8 handicap, then I went up to a 13, then back down 9, then up to a 17 (don't ask!!/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif), and finally back down to a 9 again. I just hope I can start to see some consistency soon!

Oh well, like we say - A bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at the office! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Keep it down the middle!/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

tdenny, I have a 16 ft. duel axle rated for 7k with brakes on the front axle only. (see atachment) I use my wife's Jeep GC to pull the tractor to my antique shop about 12 miles away a few times a year to cut the grass in the back. Never have I had a problem with this set up, even got my Zamboni home on this trailer with the jeep pulling it! Thank god, it was only 10 miles! Was way overloaded, but we made it!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I had the same problem with the John Deere dealer closest to my house that you had with the Kubota guy. My local JD guy actually said when I asked him about a 4100, 4110 or 4115 that he wouldn't wasteany time with those and that he'd rather show me a "real" tractor.

I actuall really try hard not to hit it anywhere that a snake might be hanging out. The course that I was referring to actually has signs that say "don't tease the bullsnakes". I haven't seen one yet though. I also got low - actually to a 7 at one time. Now I've been consistently hanging in around the 10-12 range. Too many kids and not enough golf time. But I wouldn't rather be anywhere except for maybe on the tractor. Good luck with your slow search. I too, did many, many hours, weeks, months, etc... of research. Much of it here.

Von,

Nice setup, nice house too!!! You actually have a Zamboni? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

That looks perfect for me. The only difference is that your Jeep probably has a V8. We had a really nice Jeep GC with big V8 and had to trade it in for a Mini-Van since my wife decided to have another child. I swear she tricked me. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Von,

By the way - your antique shop itself (Victor House) is incredible. I am an antique nut - but haven't had much time lately to go out and investigate our local shops. Thanks again.

Turfman, if your stake pockets are welded on to the outside of your outer rail as opposed to cut into the outer rail, I have a suggestion for you. I didn't think I had enough tie down points on my trailer (does anyone ever think they have TOO MANY? /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif ) so I decided to add some.

I took some square tubing with an outside dimension of 1 9/16" and cut 2" lengths of it. I then welded those to the outside of my rails (vertically). Then I added 2"x1/4" flat stock horizontally around all four sides of the trailer. I now have attachment points literally anywhere I choose around all four sides for rope, chain and hooks of any type. I also have the proper spacing between the side rail and my new outer flat stock to accomodate any vertical 2x dimensional lumber for stake sides. /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

When looking for a tandem axle trailer you may want to consider a longer one (18-20ft) for those many times that you need to haul the tractor/FEL and material such as mulch. The smaller trailer will haul just the tractor and attachment.
