GES- looks like good setup on both trailers. Don't mean to be nosey but what mfg is the dump trailer and how much did it cost? I've been looking at something similar from Doolittle (Missouri) 6x10, 10,000 lb rated @$5000. Seemed high and not as well constructed as yours appears to be. Theirs also had the cylinder pushing on the center of the bed which concerned me rather than the forward location of yours. Anyway, looks good.

The dump is made in or near Salem, Ohio. It's a 6X10 with 2 3500# axles, and brakes on both. Trailer weighs in at 2650# so...7000# minus 2650#. I keep loads under 5000#'s when I load at scales. That's two and one half ton I don't have to shovel. About a year ago, steel was cheaper, I paid a little over $3200.00 with tax. I don't know how to do a link but it's

Now you just need a Cummins to pull all that stuff! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Has anyone found or heard about any trailer brands or styles that are to stay away from?

Are there any pros-cons as to features (like the ramps sliding out the back of the frame as opposed to the side). My lower back is still healing from a spinal chord injury and I'm not keen to lifting ramps from the side of the trailer and moving them to the rear when I'm loading.

How about workmanship and attention to detail? Any manufacturers stand out (good/bad)?

I am presently looking at getting a new Bri-Mar CH16 with a full metal deck.

Thanks for the input.

Peter,
If you have had back problems then why not look at a tilt trailer. You would get away from ramps all together. I always dislike the thought of backing down and missing or falling off a ramp.

Hi Steve,

I thought about tilt trailers for a while but I'm not sure about it. I haven't seen very many of them around my area so haven't thought about it much. Hmmmm.

My back is not bad, it's healing and is now actually better then it was the day I got hurt. I'm just staying careful.

GES,

Great setup you have there. Are you using Transport Grade 70 chain? If so, what size is it for your tractor?

Also, what size are your load binders? They look like the ratcheting style. Where did you purchase?

Thanks so much for sharing with the Forum.

My first reaction is to say, "No pro's, all cons, period!" /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Get thee a tilt bed trailer. I have a 22' flat steel diamond plate deck with an electric hydraulic tilt powered by a battery on board the trailer and it is, without a doubt, the best thing I've done for myself in years. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I also have an 8,000 pound Warn winch and with that combination I can load, level and secure my tractor, truck, car or whatever in ten minutes, give or take, and the heaviest thing I lift is the J-hook. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With side store ramps you have to unpin them, slide them out, carry them around, hook them on the end, line them up, drive up perfectly straight and square, take the now-filthy ramps off, carry them again, load them and pin them in. With rear load ramps you get to eliminate the carrying to and from the side to the rear. Remember, too, that most of the time that you'll have the weight of these on your hands you'll be bent 90 degrees at the waist and turning awkwardly. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

With my tilt bed I flip two small levers, push one button, drive or winch up the vehicle, push another button and flip the two small levers back. Doesn't that sound easier and safer?

I know it's easy for me to spend your money like this, but, exactly how much is your health worth? Also, I can tell you from experience, the easier it is to use, the more you'll use your trailer.

If you're still not convinced, factor in snow, ice, mud, rain and sleet while you're wrestling ramps and I'm not. How about loading something like a toolchest with small wheels? Not too easy with those ramps. How about a narrow front antique tractor or a trike? Ooops! You only have two ramps. I even loaded a crated engine when the forklift was down by just winching it up on the bed.

Well, I'm done. In case you couldn't tell, I really like my tilt bed trailer. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
