I recently purchased a 85 k 5 blazer with a 6.2 Detroit diesel runs great but when I out my dk 45 on trailer it won't pull up any kind of steep hill the tranny isn't slipping the motor Rpms slow down to a near stop then I put it in low lock 4 wd to get up a 45 degree incline do you guys think the motor is weak orwould a change of gears be on order I believe it has highway gear 307s I think I only use it rarely not a daily vehicle

What transmission? It it or you downshifting?

You might get mere answers in the trailer forum:

Probably not 45 degree hills you are towing up. :)

That happened to me in a 1998 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup and it was the catalyctic converter. That was a gas vehicle though. Don't know if this helps???

Thanks woody for the idea I'm not sure if diesel has catalytic converter or not I'll check at least that's a lead to follow

If I remember right , the 6.2 had about 160 hp so I would think pulling a grade like that with a loaded trailer, 4wd low would be the only way to get it up.
just the reality of the situation.
Of course you could overhaul it put a turbo, injectors, beef up the bottom end , trans, third members. easy to get carried away and have a 30 K old blazer !!:D

If it to just be used around the property , then ya spend about 3k grand for some 5.38 gears and lockers !!
