The old naturally aspirated diesels didnt have a lot of low rpm torque so yes a gear change would definitely help,But with the low speed diesel ( 3000 _3600 rpm) cant remember , top speed would be limited.

Well for comparison my ridiculous 2000 powerstroke diesel with 444 cubic inches only makes 235 HP at the crank. The F350 weighs 7500 lbs empty too compared to maybe 5000 for the blazer.

160 isn't too bad.

I think the comparison to the 2000 F350 is a perfect example of the difference a set of gears would make. Those either had 3.73 or 4.10 gears. My experience with those K5s in the military was that they were geared real high. Great for fuel mileage, but terrible for pulling.

I have a 1996 dodge 3500 ext cab cummins with auto and only 168000 miles for sale. it has done everything i have asked. wife lost job and i cant keep up with the bills any more.

Yes, the F350 in 2000 has 3.73 gears and a 4 speed locking automatic transmission.The non locking 3 speed trans in that blazer means that it has to have tall rear end gearing just to be able to get to freeway speeds.
