Not being a trailer type but what are the benefits of a goose-neck ball over a 5th wheel? I've seen that most RV travel trailers have 5th wheels.

I don't have the specifics, but a gooseneck hitch is generally rated for a good bit more towing capacity than the typical fifth wheel hitch.

A gooseneck hitch is a bit more flexable when towing on rough uneven surfaces, making it more practical in construction and farm applications.

I had 2 trailers. A 24' gooseneck and a 20' tilt bed. I recently sold the gooseneck.
The following is just my findings based on the trailers I have owned.

My gooseneck:
Has deckover construction, 8' wide, 20' flat and 4' beavertail.
Requires a gooseneck plate of somekind mounted in the bed of the truck.
Double axle with single wheels.
Higher rated load capacity than my tiltbed.
Loaded equipment had a higher center of gravity. 36 - 38" from ground.
Axles are located farther back on trailer requiring much wider turns and had to be backed up like you are driving a tractor trailer.

My tiltbed
Is 83" between the removable fenders and has a 20' deck.
Bumper style 2 5/16" hitch.
Axles center location is about 60 / 40 instead of being at the back of the trailer.
I have a CDL so I was used to backing both the gooseneck or the tiltbed and find the tiltbed much easier to manuever and does not require such a wide swing and less turning of the wheel to make the trailer go where you want it.
Tiltbed has no ramps required. Just pull two spring loaded pins and power up the bed with an elect/ hyd. motor which takes about 12 seconds to do.
Has a 20-21" deckheight from ground.

I dont have a need to haul anything wider than 83" so I chose to sell the gooseneck. Plus I can tow my tiltbed with a dump truck or most any vehicle rated for it where I couldn't do that with the gooseneck. Of course everyone asks to borrow the tiltbed but no one asked to borrow the gooseneck. Either way, I don't lend my trailers but do offer to haul for them for a small price.

These are only my opinions and I hope they give you some insight on your decision.
