Transmission case

Hello, so I have 2007 model 2305, which I love. I have never used t
the rear PTO, but I would like to begin using a brush hog. I recently
read some posts about damaged trans cases caused by
a PTO driven implement hitting a solid object. Evidently the
wary 2305's have a weak casting in the trans case.

My question is should I use my tractor for brushhogging or is
that a receipe for disaster? Any opionions would be appreciated
as I make this decision.

By the way I thought the slip clutch was supposed to prevent

If the slip clutch is adjusted properly, and regularly, then you should not have to worry. Then again, doing the regular adjustment can be a bit of a pain and neglected, leaving a clutch that doesn't slip when needed.

How loose is your slip clutch? Will it stall out (slip) in real heavy grass?

NOt only does the slip clutch need to be in good order and adjusted properly, make sure the pto shaft on the mower is the correct length. If the shaft is too long and bottoms out when raising or lowering it can break the transmission housing. Also check shaft length when rear of mower is pushed up high, such as when you drive through a ditch or uneven terrain.

I've got a 2305 as well (~2009). I've spent a lot of time digging holes using a Leinbach on that rear PTO, I'm not afraid of using it. When I got the PHD, after reading posts here, I did spend the time setting things up making sure that it wasn't applying pressure in or out on the pto shaft at either end of the 3PH's travel. Avoiding putting a lot of lateral or tensile load on the pto shaft itself seems to be what most people here recommend, so that's what I was careful about. YMMV of course.
