Transmission differences on M models?

I went to hydro shuttle, but kept my hydrostatic L5030 as well. Side by side doing loader work, if the 5030 hstc can pick it up, it is much faster than the 100 hp MF with reverser working the same job. For that I love the thing. The MF has lots of things it does better too though or I wouldn't have it.

Now that I do much less loader work, I'm considering selling my 5030 and getting an older 2wd tractor without loader so I don't have some much money tied up in one tractor that is only getting 150 hours/year.

I am curious to know how you found the transition to be. Do you miss the HST?

I also have both a HST and a GST model Kubota. Smaller than what you are considering at 21 hp and 39 hp. It took a couple of days with the GST but it becomes pretty natural shortly. As far as missing the HST, I think it is easier to operate but not enough to under buy if the tractor I needed was only offered in GST. That was my situation at the time I bought the second one.

That was an interesting thread TripleR. For some reason I did not think of just using the brake like we do in a car with auto transmissions, to stop the tractor while still in gear in small areas.

If you are going to change directions anyway the putting the shuttle in neutral might make sense but if you are just moving in the same direction and need a slower speed temporarily I guess it is not necessary to change the range. It is obvious but will take re-learning.
