Out of curiosity, why choose a tree shear over a tree puller or a stump bucket +/- grapple? The tree shears seem to run more than double what either of the other two implements run, and the shear leaves behind a stump and roots...

I chose a tree shear about 10 years ago, because my MF240D didn't have a loader and we were overrun with cedar trees:

I put the loader on the TORO so I could pick them up with a homemade brush fork and make burn piles:

Eastern Red Cedars are out of control here too. That has happened in the last 50 years. As a kid we had to search to find one suitable for a Christmas tree. Today they are everywhere. I'm not a fan of them. They will eventually crowd out our large hardwood timbers.

I would think that an effective tree puller on a CUT would require a second hydraulic cylinder pushing against the ground, since the lift capacity of most CUTs isn't great enough to pull many trees in the 4-6" range (especially hardwoods).

Although rare, I've saw pullers designed like that.

Your comments are why I mentioned earlier that a puller requires a larger tractor than a shear.

I have thought of adding a lift cylinder to my Titan tree puller. 2,200 lbs. of lift ain't nothing, compared to a 6" maple.
