Use a fan to burn. It makes all the difference in the world. We dig a shallow trench to the burn pile, lay an old culvert in to and turn on the fan. The air going through the culvert pipe will keep the fire hot enough to burn the pile down to nothing. We burn green trees this way, it's the only way.
