Trespassing signs

Around here and possibly most other places as soon as people start getting on your land un-restricted the next thing is trash starts appearing and things disappear and fences get tore up and someone will try to chew you out for telling them to leave your land. :thumbsup:

Well, you guys do have that infamous Meth Lab problem out your way - wouldn't want one of those cropping up in my woods. Different scenario, I guess.

I've never had much of a problem with trash or riff-raff. Some stuff does get dumped - I did have to dispose of 20 tires when I bought my last piece of land, which sucks. I do occasionally find a drink cup or water bottles (they're the worst) - hunters are pretty good about policing themselves, ATV riders usually even better, "nature hikers" are absolutely the worst at leaving trash (danged hippies), and dirtbikers never litter. I hate hikers. Anyway, yes, I do have to police a small amount of other peoples trash, but that's just part of my service to society. Honestly though, I think I would have a bigger problem with that if my land was posted. More and more people do appreciate us "open use" landowners these days. Except those danged pretentious hikers, of course.

Maybe an alternative is Private road no parking. Violators will be towed.. As soon as you see a vehicle parked there have it towed out.. The trespassers aren't going to be happy to have to hoof it home and pay the extra expense of Impounds.. For me if I see a No Trespass sign I honor that.. That's just me being old fashioned I guess. By the way I know towing won't work in all situations.. Maybe a nudge over the hillside or into the ditch would be the answer then.

I have to say as far as respecting others land, I am in highschool, and I just wouldnt tresspass on anyones land. The same cant be said for almost all of my classmates......

My FIL and I used to quail hunt all the time from the late 70's until just the last few years in NE Missouri. He is the kind of guy that knows everyone - or so it seams. We literally had thousands upon thousands of acres to hunt. Hardly would ever see a no trespassing sign. I would always ask him if we had permission to hunt whatever ground we happened to be on. His standard response was "well I asked him twenty years ago". Personally I think it was more - it is not posted - must be ok to hunt.

Missouri passed the purple paint law. Seemed like overnight, purple paint sprang up everywhere. FIL got to thinking he better start doing a bit more asking, instead of violating a posted mark. Quite a few people told FIL - no, for a variety of reasons. "The quail population was way down" (which was true - still is), "have a grandson who like to bird hunt", but he also heard that the "deer hunters was the reason the land got posted for". We heard several stories of cattle being mistaken for deer. Large bore holes in equipment left in the field. Gates left open, etc.

FIL has gotten so he can't hardly hunt, and you have to walk all day with a great dog and maybe see 2 coveys. His dog power - is nil, so we haven't went bird hunting for several years.

But I sure do miss those days of hunting. We might cross several landowners on a hunt, but we were never around the house or barns or equipment. I remember several times we found fence down or the cattle out - and the hunt got scrubbed to help the landowner get his cattle in, etc.

Sorry, kinda rambled on - reminiscing a bit. The New Hampshire posts made me think about the way it used to be around here. I guess my main distinction would be - if it is vacant ground - no cattle, I probably wouldn't care if others used it. But I sure wouldn't want anyone up around my buildings, equipment or other property.

He said some people would ask him about it and he always pointed to his hereford bull in the field (which was a big bull) and they wouldn't say another word and walked away nervously. The funny thing is that bull was the laziest and tamest bull ever, I said the only way you could get that bull to run is if you had an all you can eat hay buffet, lol.

My farmer buddy lets this guy roam the pastures with the cows. He will run with no hesitation...... at you! Not docile at all. There's a reason he is sporting that length of chain on his nose ring.

I posted a few days ago about our paint ball grenades on trails on our property. Someone said that in PA it would get me jail time. Let me explain further and would invite comments.
We fill paintball grenades( rubber ballones with pressure) with invisible blacklight paint. We also have trail cams at the same locations. they grenades are 12-18" above the ground (depending on trail) when a vehicle crosses the trail the grenade dispenses a shower of permenant invisible blacklight activated paint. We then take the trail cam pics, find the perpetrator and take our little black light with us so as they protest we can ask them to see their bikes. Many local folks here let folks ride freely until they ripped up the turf and were destroying the trails. Then we posted, put up chains and gates and then resorted to this.
Does this still get us to jail.. Hmmm not sure but word is out now don't screw these folks.. get permission first.

I don't have an objection to non-motorized users, as long as they ask permission and don't trash the place. I mostly don't like the ATVs and snow machines ripping and roaring all over the place...walkers, bikers, skiers, horseback riders are OK with me; I just have a prejudice against the machines, I guess.

It's not hard to ask for permission and I find most land owners will let you ride on their land if you ask. It's when you don't ask that irritates them cause it shows disrespect. Cause so many people don't ask lots of great riding land is being lost. Everybody around here knows me and my dune buggy, I actually drove to everyone's house with the buggy and asked for permission. I told them I won't ride in the fields if it has been seeded or has crop on it or being worked, they were more than willing to let me ride on their land. It's just common sense to leave it as you found it when you are done.

I go along with some of the other comments about equipment. On our property, I get much more upset by lazy people riding ATVs than someone walking around.

Anyone have caves on their properties? Cavers can be one of the most determined and sneaky trespassers. I know because I'm a caver. I've seen what disrespectful people can do to landowners property, some people have no sense.

My Mama had people sneaking in to fish. She would go down to the pond with a shotgun and if she saw anyone she would shoot up in the air, not toward the trespassers. They usually scramble away through the woods. she has found several Zebco 33s tangled up in briars and left. Once her brother-n-law slipped in. She found his truck and let the air out of all 4 tires. He had to use a hand pump to fill them up. The pond was just stocked and not ready to fish, but he couldn't wait.

No, but she will be 83 in February and still gets out and works. I did finally get her to quit getting on the roof to clean the chimney but she hasn't given up her small chainsaw. She goes dancing EVERY Friday night at the local DAV.
