Trouble finding insurance for tractor

My Allstate agent is checking with an insurance broker she knows to see if she can get me an inland marine policy as an individual, not associated with a business. Allstate won't sell it to individuals, only businesses.

Just curious, how much should coverage be? My tractor is worth maybe $10K or so. I mainly want to be covered as I trailer it from place to place. Worried about an accident wrecking the tractor.

Just added insurance for my 2 trailers. Just bought a 20' 14K equipment trailer, and want it covered in case of theft. Was less than $80 a year. My older 6x10 trailer was $50 a year.

2 years ago, I had Inland Marine coverage in MA, for my 32K valued L48TLB, on a $4,500 valued trailer, for $500 per year.
I no longer need trailering coverage, so my USAA policy covers my machine , which now stays only on my property.

I have a farm general liability with my tractors listed for liability coverage only. The one I would hate to have to replace from my wallet has full coverage on it. I had a pickup break the law passing me in a NO PASSING zone but I was declared the guilty party for he began making his illegal pass before I began my left turn. Attorney friend told me in jury case would win but this was a neighbor who would have bashed me all over the neighborhood and my insurance company just wrote a check.

But to the question on where to find coverage: First there are many many many threads on this topic here. It gets asked my guess about four times a year. The price of some of these plans is so low the agency who can sell them will if not a current insured or buying other coverage. They may make $25 for the year and spend a couple of hours in the process. That is a money looser right off. So first talk with who ever you have other coverage with. There often is a company such as Farm Bureau and Tractor Time With Tim (youtube and facebook) has a company who does so in a few states as sponsor (not sure their exact name). But and this is a big BUT, the Kubota and JD coverage is a more complete coverage the last I compared them to the typical insurance companies. It has been asked already what coverage are you wanting...you first need to know having a tractor insured only means it is insured for ONE or a Certain potential loss. If you have it on the road or you owe on it or you will be doing work for hire having it covered for fire or theft only can certain place you in a great risk. Having a $25,000 burn or stolen is nothing compared to damaging buried lines you were not aware of or failed to have 811 search for, it is nothing compared to an accident of even one $80,000 pickup or someone being injuried or killed. I am not aware of any state or federal rules making insurance on a tractor standard in design as auto or home is.

My agent contacted an independent insurance broker and he found an inland marine policy for $500. Too expensive for the 1-2 times a year I take my tractor off property. He did say we may be able to add a rider to our home policy to cover the tractor when it goes off property and he thought that should be $75-$100. We'll see.

Thank you for the update. Yes I think that is too much as well. I have two tractors, my trailer, and my implements on my Inland Marine Policy and it is $250 a year.

But at least we now know a individual without a business can in fact get a Inland Marine policy in CT.
