I twist the wires and then put the nut on. I don't see how you could have an electrical inspector that wasn't or is not presently a licensed electrician. Wouldn't that be like having a funeral director giving you a car inspection.

I resemble that remark!!!:D

Out on the left coast almost all of the building inspectors are former general contractors, who could not make it in that business.

True in my town. The building inspector came out to inspect the newly done asphalt shingle roof. We did a full tear off. All done in late fall, so the shingles had not had a chance to heat up and lay down. So some of the shingles had some "wrinkles". The inspector declared that we would have to nail those shingles down so they would lay flat. When we tried to explain that after a few good hot, sunny days the shingles would lay down just fine (which they did) he said he would be back to make sure we nailed them down. The building permit only cost 200 dollars. Imagine the great advice if the permit had been 300 :D

You need a building permit to re-shingle your house? Oh my God, that really stinks. Your inspector needs Building Course 101 LOL's.

Yes, we need a permit to do almost anything. Revenue stream.

Sometimes building permits are more of a tax than a "safety" feature of building. In our town, they don't inspect every building permit that is issued. Only those that have potential for safety hazards, such as plumbing and electrical. If you take a permit for a small shed, it is doubtful that they will ever inspect it, but the tax assessor will be out to measure and make sure that they get the tax revenue on it.

What a bunch of crooks. Taxation without representation led to the Boston Tea Party. Sounds like you folks need to have a revolt.

Interesting replies. I suspect in a lot of small towns that the credentials for being a building inspector involve relations as much as knowing regulations.
I was curious to see if anyone would admit to just wireing wire together with wire nuts without twisting the wires. I will admit to doing that. When I first moved back to Arkansas most of my work history at that time was with military weaponry. None of the equipment I worked on was secured with wire nuts. If you had to make a splice it was done with a type of heat shrink tubing that had solder in the middle. You heated the heat shrink tubing and the solder got hot and flowed into the connection. After wireing my house I had a light a few months later that would not come on I found that the problem was in the wireing in the attic. I checked and found that the wire nut had burnt off of the connection. I realized what had happened and really got upset about how close I had come to starting a fire. I went around to the rest of the connections and twisted the wires together, soldered them, put the wire nut on, and then wrapped tape around the nut.

He is probably doing his homework to see if he has any legal way to not pay this guy the full amount owed. I know if it were me in his shoes. I would be doing some serious homework.

You call it homework..... I would call it sleepless nights. I hate going to sleep when I have a problem that is unresolved. That is because I can't sleep.:D
