truck plow to tractor plow

/ truck plow to tractor plow #61
Seeing all the different plow mounts posted on this forum sparked my own idea. I took the forks off fork lift attachment and welded on plates to hold a worn out plow that a guy gave me. We finally got enough snow to try it out and it worked great after I took the skids off the bottom to the plow. I do like the idea of skids on the bottom of the push frame. I have to keep the frame pretty low to keep the blade from folding over. You also have to be easy when angling like others have talked about.

Thanks
Dan D.

Dan,
That's a big ole plow!, I'm gonna try the same thing some day, I was eyeballing that same set up before I made my truck plow 3 pt mount. The jury's still out on the 3 pt set up but I do like the plow due to the speed.

Dan,

Looks good can you still put your forks back on when needed?

All I have to do is pull two pins to remove the plow and the forks will set right back on the mounts. I wish they were 4' wide instead of 3'

The plow is 7' wide but the price was right so if it never works out I'm not out anything but my labor. I could cut it down to 6' with out a lot of trouble.

I think what we've all done here is acted resourcefully in finding ways to plow some snow on our various properties. The best part is we didn't break the bank.

I get, on average, maybe 3-6 snowfalls per year. Barely enough to justify the $750 I have wrapped up in my snowplow, but I'm pleased and I didn't go nuts and spend $2,700 on a new Curtis plow or something crazy like that.

If I were plowing commercially like I used to, it would be a different story.

Hi Builder,

I had a 6' truck plow on my Kubota last year. The plow set up was 1/2 Fisher, 1/2 Myers. That's the way I bought it. I used the electric over hydraulic to power angle and the bucket for the up and down. A simple toggle switch in the dash to a solinoid was all I needed. I cut down the original quick disconnect frame to just a bottom rail and welded on ears to be bolted into the bucket. I could pull the plow and leave the ears only...and then unbolt the ears in the winter. I'm using a snowblower now but the plow worked great and didn't need nearly as much maint.

Here are some photos, good luck with your project!

Builder,

Thanks for starting this post between all the projects am getting some great ideas.
We have to keep this one going..

Bostonrats,

yours came out great too.

Do you have any battery issues with the plow?
Where did you make your electrical connections on the tractor side.

It all came from an arrogant local tractor dealer who got an attitude when I asked if he would consider selling me a $3,000 tractor plow for $2,700. I said heck with it, I'm putting together my own plow. I saved $2,300 with a little running around, shipping, etc by putting my own package together.

I'll tell ya, though CAT makes a really sweet power angle plow for our tractors. I wish I could post a picture of it. It has power angling cylinders that are parallel to the plow instead of perpendicular to it so the plow sticks out about 2' less than a regular P/A plow.
When I come back reincarnated as a rich guy with a long driveway and a couple GM big block race cars in my garage, I'm gonna buy that plow. :)

I hear you there. The mount for those is sweet, and the mount is universal to ALL front mounted implements. Still pondering it, but we are going to buy a truck plow, and build our own mount.

I would say to anyone who is considering dropping 3K on a tractor plow that it might be better to just buy an old beater truck that has a plow on it. You know what they call 'em down my way "beater wit a heater".

I've seen plenty of old jeeps & beat up pickups that come with a power angle plow for 3K or less.

Good pics, guys.

I'm working on locating a decent used pickup plow to convert to tractor use - I've noticed there are a lot more available this year than last, even in the dead of winter, and the prices are down quite a bit.

I don't have any welding equipment, so I'm going to have a local guy do the fabrication for me after I give him some sketches of what I want. I want to modify the A frame to be similar to what Curtis does to keep the plow tighter in to the loader.
