Trying to trench with middle buster in clay

( These middle busters are great. Is it true that all you need to do to make a subsoiler out of the MB is to tremove the shovel? )

A sub-soiler has a shaft that is several inches longer than a middle buster (my subsoiler is probably 6" longer than my middle buster) consequently a subsoiler will dig deeper than a middle buster, but it won't dig as wide.

You might try backing your tractor/MB up to a drop-off like a retaining wall, drop the MB to the depth you would like to reach, then look at the MB geometry. In the lowered position, the leading edge should be the lowest point with no other part of the MB "dragging its heel". That heal dragging may be polishing your clay.
