Please remove my above post....I used 50 weight Valvoline racing oil in my trans not the recommended synthetic. It has been preforming well with this high zinc content motor oil. I thought I would have it apart within a month or so ...so I put in the cheep stuff on hand. Since it is quiet and working well it will stay together. I installed new pump motor and differential gears last winter.

Has anyone ever tried to change oil in tuff torq k-46 Buy pumping and filling in vent or drilling drain and refill in vent without removing trans from tractor ? Mine working good 225 hrs but think could help it last with oil change THANKS L 120 JD

Back a couple pages - post 740
Dropping the K46 is just 4 bolts and a couple clips for the linkage. Then turn it upside down with the breather cap removed, refill with 5W50 synthetic (can not refill with it in the tractor anyway).Did mine in about 90 minutes total (most time waiting for the fluid to drain). Also it is good to remove the K46 to give it a good exterior cleaning.

First of all, thanks to the OP for the awesome information! Good job buddy!

No, I did not sift through all 70 some odd pages of posts on this topic so I don't know if someone already made mention of this but I called Tufftorq to order the parts mentioned by the OP and apparently tufftorq no longer offers the kits described. You can't buy the cylinder block pump kit and the cylinder block motor kit anymore. They want to sell you a master repair kit that costs around $370.00.

Now I did not talk to the famed Derrick, it was a woman I talked to. I'm not suggesting that the problem is due to the fact she's a woman so don't even go there....:female:

I have emailed the company attn:derrick so hopefully if this is not actually the case he will let me know soon.

My machine isn't worth putting $400 in to. I'd put $200 so hopefully the lady was in error and I'll get my parts soon.

Just thought I'd let everyone know incase this hasn't already been brought to light. :anyone: If it has, I'm sorry and I'm sure someone will set me straight.

Found another outfit that I was able to get the parts from.

Lawn Mower Parts, Small Engine Parts & Much More! | PartsTree.com - Briggs, MTD, Toro, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Troy-bilt...

This is for the K46AC.

Exact parts diagram as what was found on the tufftorq website. parts were available however the nice lady said it could take 8-10 days to get as their warehouse didn't have them in stock but she assured me that they are available and I would get them. We shall see. I will update when they come in. Here's hoping.

One last thing to note when doing this rebuild...

I can see now why tufftorq wants to sell you the whole motor/pump block assembly. when you get yours apart, check the surface that the pump and motor rotate on. If it's heavily scored or damaged, you will loose oil pressure here as well. Mine is not too bad. It won't catch a finger nail so I'm gonna go with it. I'll lightly clean it up with some emry cloth and see what happens. I'll let you all know.

I have attached photos of how mine looked. Good luck to all and thanks again to the OP for his great information.

I wonder if it worth while mentioning the running hours on each post. That would give an indication on how much wear has occurred and a time frame to go with it. I know quite a few people do mention running hours but not everyone does.
Just a thought is all. Each case is different of course, but there is probably a trend somewhere that would give advance warning to owners.
Thanks

LotsofGreenGrass is amazing, Thank you!!! Repaired my TuffTorq K46 for $170 vs $750 for new transaxle. I did have to take it back apart, apparently I misaligned something during the first assembly and the axle wouldn't turn. I took greater care the second time and it works great.
