1720 SSS Turbo
Posted by Tim Bartletrt on 06/02/2011
I bought my 1988 Ford 1720SSS in April of 1995 with a FEL with under 200 hours it currently has 2006 hours on clock.
I have numerous attachments which include a 25kw Generac PTO generator with 100amp breaker panel & various outlets that mounts to 3pt hitch so I can bring power anywhere, a 60 snow blower, homemade pallet, forks, rototiller, 60" brush cutter, RM59 finish mower, 1 bottom plow, harrows, posthole digger
Also a large extension for bucket to increase capacity which is easily mounted or removed, modified OEM headlights to accept H4 bulbs. I added 2 halogen work lights to loader arms along with 2 for rear of tractor, ag & turf tires, 3pt hitch attachment for skidding logs with receiver for various hitches.
I have used my tractor for clearing 4 heavily wooded acres and snow-blowing 2 driveways and mowing. I have had zero mechanical issues. The only issues I have found is the need for the creeper gear set and/or more power when snow-blowing. The first full pass snow blowing down the driveway and at the end of the driveway which is rolled & packed from the plows requires excessive use of the clutch to allow the snow-blower to clear.
The need for a cab. The power issue has been solved with the addition of a turbocharger from a Saab. My guess is that the HP has been increased 30~50%. It now throws wet snow like powder.
The turbo design allowed a very easy and clean installation.
Tractor has never been to a dealer. A larger alternator is needed now if all lights are on at once but aside from that this has been an excellent tractor, it has no oil or coolant leaks and starts at any temperature.
I would definitely buy another!!
Tim
ITEM INFORMATION
Model year: 1995
Date Purchased: 04/18/1995
Number of Hours: 2006
As of 12/14/2016 I have over 2800 hours on it with absolutely no issues. Only cost to own other than oil & filters is a new set of front agg tires $203.00
It continues to make my smile when it gets loaded down. The boost comes up and it just motors right thru.
Best mod I could have done.
Good work Jinn-Man
