Since I have rather limited resources, this it how I transport and process the logs into firewood.
First I get the tree on the ground, limb it up and pile the limbs on burn piles which are burned in the winter months
Second I get the logs into manageable sizes for my Yanmar 169D tractor.
To insure steering, i put 200 pounds of weight on the front for ballast and watch my load.
There are 2 ways to move the logs, i can lift them with my forks or I can wrap a chain around the log and drag it with my forks.
When I get all my logs in one spot I cut them all into rounds (cut 6 cord with my grandpa in 4 hours) and make a pile of rounds ready to split.
I purchased a log splitter this fall (highly recommended for massive quantities of wood) and split the wood to specification requested
I stack the wood on pallets (cut a square chunk from the center of a large round to tie the ends together) and stack 4 feet high (roughly the size of a pallet of wood pellets)
After all this I put a tarp over all my pallets of split wood (to heavy for my tractor to move, will use a skid steer in the spring months) and I let the wood season.
When I move the wood, I will purchase some shrink wrap material and wrap the wood together for transportation across the rough terrain here.
Now everyone does it different, this is just the way i do it with only a 19hp Yanmar, 3 point forks, a chain, my log splitter, and my chain saw. Relatively small amount of equipment for this task but that's all it takes.
