Dealer gave me UDT as part of my 50 hr service which I completed last weekend. Now I learn I should have actually used Super UDT instead. Whats the differnace? I have 12 hrs on my BX23 with the new fluids, would you swap it out now?

From my understanding any issues with the differant oil come with extreme cold/hot weather. You should be okay.

There have been many threads on this.

I use SUDT because my dealer and my manual Recommend it.

Try it If it performs the same as the Factory fill of SUDT, then you are O/K.

I will not comment any further because I have been blasted in the past for using what Kubota recommends

Sore subject.

I use smurf oil (new holland) for my BX 2230. AV8R2230 is right about the temps. The service department at my local dealer only uses the new holland fluids and suggests it over udt because they are the same. True or not I dont know but its what they put into their rentals and repairs. Plus its cheaper and the way my tracotor is seeping its better for me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would have preferred to use the Super UDT like the manual recomends. After working the machine for extended time this weekend I took the backhoe off, while disconnecting the hydrolics they felt hotter than usual. Probably just in my mind and temp. gauge was ok, machine worked fine, it just got me thinking. Does anyone know, is UDT vs. Super thicker than one over another? Is one better designed for the mild climate in Western WA?

I don't think that for us up here the difference in the two really matter much. If we were in extreme cold then it might be an issue. Also, I think the temp guage is for the engine and not the hydraulics. I have been using the udt since the 100 hour mark and haven't noticed any difference. I have almost 400 hours now.

Wow...I don't belong in this thread at all, but that's never stopped me from commented before. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

While I know that statements such as " oil is oil" aren't correct, my experiences lead me to believe that any oil is better than no oil, or grease for that matter. Don't get me wrong, when it's time to change fluids, I try to follow manf recomendations. But when hoses leak and dipsticks are low I pour in what is at hand (within reason). The whole synthetic vs dyno threads are lost on me, as is the sudt vs udt. Perhaps I've spent too much time in refineries and have witnessed the small scale/specialty lubricant packaging methods employed. They make the meat packing industries look sterile.

While my approach is certainly crude, (no pun intended) I've NEVER had an engine fail, or dog on me (carbs excluded). /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now, from your post I read:

"Now I learn I should have actually used Super UDT instead."

Why??? Really, I'd like to know. Obviously not a warranty issue, as work was performed by Kubota.

"Whats the differnace?"

I don't know either, but am less impressed with the marketing terms such as "super."

"...would you swap it out now?"

After 12 hrs??? I'd run it til it was black, and then swap it into my lawn mower.

There are many who will disagree with me, and they are likely better armed with lab analysis and expert commentaries. But then again, they are spending your money, not their own.

FWIW, I'd relax, keep it lubed, the bolts tight, follow the service schedule, trust your dealer, and enjoy your fine tractor.
Cheers, edski (presently wearing my asbestos panties) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

While not an expert by any sense of the word, I've seen some pretty strange things with just an oil change. I'm planning to skip the Super UDT and use some royal purple oil. http://royalpurple.com/prodsi/stiii.html Its called SynTractor and if it works as well as the engine oil, I'll be a real happy man.

Just to add to the confusion. I live in Australia and I can not buy SUDT, only UDT from my Kubota dealer.
