That's just so they can find some reason to blame it on the dealer or you. Hopefully I'm wrong but that seems the direction of customer service recently.

Just got a call from my dealer, they see nothing wrong w/ the blower at all. Now I wait and see if Meteor steps up w/ anything. Joy.

Hopefully someone at METEOR reads TBN .Several people have asked for snowblower recommendations.I for one am telling them to shy away from that one,as are others.Acouple bad apples will spoil the whole bunch so to speak. If they do know about TBN they better fix you up,or their just hurting their reputation.Ialways thought it WAS a good blower before.

go to a dealership that has some hot of the truck 60'' meteors and you will see it has a bigger gearbox more similar to the 68'' splined input shaft and more... im pissed:mad::mad:

It would be interesting to know if the new boxes bolt on to the original frame or if the frame and drives were reengineered. It may be time to get more aggressive with Meteor.

Interesting. I had a Meteor and it worked fine at any speed. It's just a mechanical linkage and a simple gearbox. Doesn't seem like it would matter much whether it runs at 100rpm or 500rpm.

it will work, however it is most efficient at a certain tip speed on the impeller (which speed is reached at ~540 rpm on the PTO shaft), sort of like how on a mower deck, you will get a better cut with less load on the engine if you run at the rated speed (generally 15,000 to 19,000 fpm at the blade tip for a commercial grade mower)

running at less than the rated speed will put more of a load on the whole system, and can help weak parts to die.

Strange,

I've had two Meteor's, one for a BX and one for my L39. Both worked great. Are they the finest in design and manufacturing......definitely not. My first one looked like an amateur welder sold is first project from a night welding class. Regardless, it worked pretty good. I broke countless sheer bolts and had a bag of them with me at all times. Lots of cursing the unit and lots of numb fingers, but never a gear box. There's got to be something wrong with the basic build characteristics of your particular rig. Maybe the guy they assigned to yours missed the class on proper assembly.

From your statements, you are doing NOTHING wrong. I'd put it on a pallet and bring it to the dealer's door. It's a bad unit. Just leave it there and call everyday to check the status. Maybe "request" the dealer call his Meteor number and have a conference call right there with a representative. If no answer, then call back and ask him to conference you in until you get somebody. Keep calling until it's resolved. That's a useless unit and it doesn't sound like it's doing much for you mental or physical health.

I have a Farm King blower that I bought used and have no idea what it is rated for but, the gear/shaft setup is the same as SR posted but without the box. Mine just has open gears under a sheet metal cover that flips up for access. So it is open to the elements, snow, dirt etc. I smear a little grease on the gears once in a while although they were totally dry when I bought it so I believe the previous owner did no such maintenance.
Getting to the point, if there is no room for a bigger gearbox-is there room for bigger shaft/gears without the box?
Just a thought.
