Fix it and sell it. If for no other reason than if it breaks again you will lose your mind. I know I would.

I did fix it again, I have no choice. And yes, if it goes again I probably will go postal on somebody. But for now since my dealer inspected the whole set up yesterday, ran it on my tractor and sees nothing wrong and is going to contact Meteor I'm going to be calm, cool and collected. You know, the whole catch more flies w/ honey than vinegar thing. At the very LEAST I expect to be reimbursed for this last gearbox I bought.

Even if I were to sell it I can't afford to replace it w/ a different blower at this time. Plus, honestly I'd feel like a worm selling this thing to someone knowing/thinking something aint right with it. I'm really hoping my dealer will swap it out or something. I don't want someone else to have to deal w/ my problems ya know.

I'm gonna give my dealer a day or 2 to contact Meteor and get his ducks in a row. Then I'm going to the shop on Saturday and see what's what. I also now REALLY want to see if he has any of the "new & improved" versions there on site. I'm gonna get real ornery if he does.

Well, good luck. If you do sell it some day, you can feel honorable about it by telling the person you had replaced the gear box and are going to a bigger unit. Maybe the dealer would take a trade? (Easy for me to say, I get you loud and clear about having lots more ideas than $$).

Update:
After many discussions etc. it looks like the squeaky wheel, me, may get greased. After some pressure the distributor of the blower parts actually admitted they did in fact have a large batch of faulty quality gearboxes! Sons-a-b*&^$es!!! So this morning I dropped off the 2 exploded gearboxes w/ my Kubota dealer who is going to return them to the disty for a refund. I'm sure hoping that is a full refund. I guess we'll see what happens.

Sounds like it may pay off, being persistent and keeping your cool. Good for you.

I have a 68" meteor pull type and I due a 1 1/2 mile long driveway. This is the second year with a meteor and other than shear pins I dont have an issue. I run this with an l2800.

By the way I paid around $3000 and thats including the new rear remote to turn the shute without getting out of the cab. I also do not get neck aches from turning around backwards to watch where I am going.

I wonder how the OP made out with Meteor. I hope he did well.

I also have a 60" Meteor rear 3PH snowblower. I have been using it hard now for a year with a Kioti CK20(s) HST tractor and only sheared one pin and no other problems. I believe my tractor is rated at the likes of 16 h.p. at the P.T.O.

I read this entire thread and maybe missed something. I want to try and identify my gearbox to determine if my gearbox is one of the underbuilt units.

It is my understanding that this gearbox has to be removed first too see if it is made in China because the stamping identifying this is on the bottom and you cant see it until the unit is removed. Right now I have not a clue but would like to ID the gearbbox. Seems like with all the snow I have relocated I should know by now but I have had no other failures other than hitting a big (submerged in snow) oak limb and shearing a pin on the chain drive side of the big horizontal auger.

My Meteor blower gearbox broke the shaft during our last snow storm. Not thinking I ordered the gearbox thru my dealer. When I read what everyone said in this forum, especially StrangeRanger I called my dealer in Vermont, showed him this thread. He called the distributor and I am getting a new gearbox free of charge. The dealer said the distributor did not even argue the point.

thats a good thing esp with the economy the way it is right now. Let us know how your new gearbox works out.
