Unhooking pto with engine off?

There are certain that happen in life, and some not so good, but if one were to use good sound logic, one can eliminate the risk by weighing the odds. Should I , would I, could I, and the answer is yes to some of us.

If you have been doing something for twenty years safely, what are the odds that something bad will happen today or tomorrow.

There are some people that are always at odds with themselves, thinking to much about a subject.

Rules are rules, but sometimes there are no rules and you do what you want to do, be it right or wrong.

You might do some things that you will not let your kids do, why, because you have more experience and have developed a sense of what is feasible.

My brother and I both own JD 5310 tractors. Mine is 2wd and his is 4wd with shuttle shift and FEL. The PTO seems to operate the same for both tractors.

This happened to a 5320 I use to run at a vineyard, had just finished the spray run for the day and was actually just about to un hook the sprayer when I noticed the PTO still turning, it was running much slower than it's normal idle but still turning, checked the leaver and it was defiantly off. Called the dealer, they ended up splitting it to find the trans clutch springs had blown apart and in the process one had jammed in the PTO clutch, the funny thing about this is the main clutch still worked fine, and the PTO still engaged fine.
