Looks like the lift capacities of my JD 3038E with a 305 loader are well within the limits of what I'll need to unload:

Measured at pivot (U) 1186 (539)

Measured at pivot (W) 1294 (588)

At maximum height (VV) 1433 (639)

At 1.5 m (59-in.) lift height (XX) 1814 (809)

At ground level line (ZZ) 1422 (634)

The attachments that I'm looking at are the 73" Caroni Flail at 650 lbs and the Wallenstein BX42 at 425 lbs.

I don't have any hooks on my loader for attaching chains. I may look at getting a set of forks for the FEL and I think that I'll get the 3PH frame from TSC and make a box for adding weight in the back.

Hopefully after a few more hours on the tractor I'll be ready for the next step. I will request a truck with a lift gate when I order.

Thanks to everyone for the quick response.

Dennis

I don;t have any

You won't have a problem lifting the implements, your problem will be how to lift them. As you said, with no hooks on the FEL bucket, pallet forks will be your best friend. I ordered forks with my 3320, even though in the past I have always used angle iron attached to the FEL with bolts. So far the pallet forks have been worth their weight in gold, and they're almost a necessity with an FEL tractor. Skip the 3pt frame from TSC and go right to your Deere dealer and order a ballast box, there only $206 and that's a lot easier than try to make one.

I wouldn't waste my $$ on a ballast box. Pick up a carry all for a hundred bucks, then just load up some concrete blocks or something onto a pallet that you can pick up with it. The ballast box is pretty much a one show pony, it won't do much else for you. The carry-all is at least a two show pony..

If he buys pallet forks than a carry-all is pointless. Not to mention that in tight spaces a carry-all is going to be a pretty useless piece.

So, does anyone have a source for pallet forks for a JD 305 loader?

My JD dealer sold Horst Welding products in excess to the usual JD stuff. He could get me the Horst pallet forks for cheaper than the JD ones, so I picked those up. They're a nice heavy duty fork, rated for 3700 lbs I believe, and I would definitely look at some of there other equipment compared to JD because it's usually cheaper and it's built just as well. Lots of JD dealers seem to be Horst dealers too, check out your local dealer as they might be as well.

I bought fixed forks by the way. I wanted to be able to dump stuff that I would have on the forks, where as floating forks would stay level all the time.

Go to buy youself 2 wratcheted heavy lift tie down straps (about $18 per strap from True Value). Run the straps through the 3 point lift gates on the implement, put the FEL over the implement and attach run the straps over the FEL and then wratchet it up. You want it so that the implement is suspended by about a foot under the FEL.

I've done this to put my 400 lb tiller on my trailer to take to the dealer and then to lift it off aftewards. Pretty easy.

Lots cheaper then pallet forks.

I like the idea of you lift, and they drive the truck out from underneith.

If you have a attachment that you can put on you're 3PH for ballast, that would be good.

Have a helper available to try to keep the lift from swinging into the front of the tractor. Don't let them get between the two.

Do everything very s l o w l y . . .

I bought a pair of clamp-on bucket forks rated at 2500 lbs. from yankeewarehouse1 on Ebay. They cost $189.99 delivered, and they're worth their weight in gold. Plus, they only take about 30 seconds to put on or take off.

I'd skip the forks, the ballast box, and the carry all. You can lift these implements with no problem and no hooks. I've done it many times. Just use chains looped over your bucket. I've done this with a box blade (500 pounds) and a rotary cutter at nearly 800 pounds.

Or, if you want to be a little more secure, bolt some D rings to your bucket and use appropritely rated straps with hooks on them. I've moved all of my implements this way including unloading an 800+ pound disk harrow.

Here is what the D-rings look like:

This way you do not need to weld or spend much money. You should be able to get the rings, hardware and straps at TSC for well under $100.

Edit: It is very helpful to have a second person there to stabilize the load when it is lifted. They can do it by hand or with a short length of rope. Just go slow and steady.

A carry-all is $100 cheaper than a ballast box.. And it still has other uses, unlike the ballast box. If you need ballast, buy the carry-all. But if you have extra money to throw away, by all means, throw it away...
