Now with the cab and ROPS off, I can get the 2210 into my storage area. But now I have a new issue. The 62C mower deck is too wide to fit into the door. The door is about 63" wide and the deck comes out to about 65" wide. I found a never-used 54C at a compelling price that somebody got when they bought a new JD 2305. Turns out that this 54C deck was too wide for them also, so they continued mowing with their smaller machine. (go figure that out). And now this leads to yet another issue for me: My machine came with a triple-bag powerflow, and now I find out that JD, with their infinite wisdom, did not maintain the same output chute configuration between the 54C and 62C. The powerflow housing is somehow different. I called a JD dealer and they confirmed that the powerflow housing is indeed different, and it's not just some mounting brackets that have been tweaked. Good grief.
Alternatively, I could reframe the door opening. But I don't need such a wide deck, and it's not all that much work to swap out attachments. Just takes patience with all the idiots and low-ballers that respond to the listing.
Now I'll have the cab and the 62C mower deck with the matching powerflow/triple bagger to sell.
With a little bit of time now running the 2210, I can see that the hydro foot control is super smooth and a big improvement over the dash-mounted hydro control on the older 300 series, just as ededic said. There is never any creep, it gracefully returns to a stop if you let off, and the fine control is amazing. Also, the loader control is super smooth too. Swapping the bucket for pallet forks is so fast that they can be changed even for quick tasks.
I noticed that the 1026 mower deck offers some Quick-attach brackets so the loader can come in over the top and pick up the deck in the same way it attaches to the bucket or forks. This will make servicing the deck insanely handy, and it makes sense to build some hangers so in the winter, the deck can be lifted up and hung on the wall. I'll have to figure out how to build some quick-attach brackets for the 54C deck.
I found that the end bend in the loader hydraulic hose fittings didn't make much sense as far as how the hoses come in and snap into the tractor. By loosening the hoses where they tie into the steel lines, they could be rotated just a little, so the bends on the other end fit nicely, and the hoses all follow the same path coming off the tractor. I see photos of 2210s where I can see those hoses coming off the fittings at all kinds of crazy angles. 20 minute adjustment.
Finally, the powder coat that JD used back then is less than desirable. It's great until something nicks the coating. Water sneaks in and rust cruises everywhere underneath. The surface still looks nice and shiny, but you can see the little bubbles from the cancer down under. I used a dremel with a flap-sanding thing to remove all the loose powder coat and used a small brush to paint on some JD Turf Green paint to seal it back up. Dealing with it now was easy, because the spots were small. I've seen 300 series tractors with fender seat pans that are all chewed up from years of this. My old 1982 318 had a painted deck and that was fantastic over all the years. A scratch down to bare metal just stayed a scratch and not much more after 25 years of use. Not so with the later machines that have powder coat on the fenders. A little TLC to treat powder coat nicks goes a long way.
