Buying Advice Used JD 110 vs everything else

How underpowered is the 110? Does the 42/33HP rating feel that low? Someone just mentioned putting a 7ft Gannon box blade on the back. Can the 110 actually handle the blade? My Massey is 47/36HP rated... And there are times when plowing, grading, and stump grinding when I start to run low on power (but in fairness, I tend to grade/disc in medium range HST, so staying in low would help)... In theory, could I replace my Massey with the 110 and have comparable power? Or is the 42/33 pretty accurate?

As a general rule, Deere has always stated Hp lower than actual tested Hp. A little time on the Nebraska Tractor Test Site will illustrate that fact.

I don't know how Massey generally rates their tractors.

The hyd ripper Gannon box is a "companion" attachment for the 110. It works very well behind the 110.

If you look at the 1st photo you can see this 110 is set up for a thumb, it has the quick attach bucket, the foot pedal control and the quick attach couplers.

Not with a full load (about 1 1/4 yds) I generally use low range and 4x4 for these full pulls.

Ok thx. Have you run a Harley behind it at all? Curious to know how well it turns and pulls a Harley.

The best way to learn is hands on, but these guys are about as close as you can get to that at a distance. If you have any equipment questions, someone here will be able to help. I've pick up a lot of info just reading around the forums.

No, haven't pulled a Harley rake with it but have used my six foot Deere 673 tiller with it and an MX6 rotary cutter. I don't know but would expect that a six tine/rotor tiller would be similar in loading to a Harley rake but don't quote me.

And I'm assuming then that it handles those implements just fine?

Handles them well as similar hp tractors. For a rototiller or Harley rake I would drop the front bucket to reduce overall weight which would allow more power to be utilized by the pto instead of being used to haul the machine around. At that point the weight of the tractor would be close to a similar 4000 series. If you need more pto hp an M59 Kubota might be a better choice. For my purposes I felt it was more convenient to have a second tractor (4520) for 3pt work, much easier to change seats and keep working.

Choosing the right machine can be a tough decision to make. I do custom work on small acreages so transport size is important, if the equipment is large it cost too much to move it. If the equipment is too small it takes too long to get the jobs done. If all a person plans to do is work on their own small property you can get by with a lot smaller equipment. A 110 on 10 acres ought to be a great choice to do most anything that comes up.

I originally bought the 110 for my plumbing/general contracting business. Had considered buying a 5 ton mini ex and compact wheel loader instead of a single backhoe. In the end the 110 came out on top because it was easy to tow with a service truck, I could haul in the tools, pipe, fittings to handle most jobs in one trip. That did save a lot of time and money and after 10 years I can say I made the right choice.

After 25 years in the plumbing I have had enough and shut it down at the end of the year. My equipment needs may change to something larger but since I have to move it a lot I don't want it to exceed 8.5' width and need to be able to use my F550s' for transporting. This stuff has to pay its own way too.
