Buying Advice Used JD 110 vs everything else

/ Used JD 110 vs everything else #101
You know.. I've been having those same thoughts about my 110 for several years now... cab, 10-15 more Hp @pto, etc, etc.

So, I bought a JD4720 cab with 400CX loader this past year. Very nice, comfortable and capable machine. But... and this is a BIG but - it won't hold a clod to workin' the dirt like the 110!!

Not even close...

So, better get ALL your heavy ground projects done before you sell the 110 and sit in the seat of that cab, 4520!

I have a Kubota L39, that has the engine and trans of Kubota Grand L. The difference between the light construction machine and the Ag machine is the BH, intergrated Loader Frame and greater hydraulic capacity.

I've broke my L39, but iI'd have destroyed and ag tractor, two times over.

A little care in operating the machine, not making big impact type loads on the castings and you'll never break a JD110. They are a solid tractor. Like AKfish mentions, he has done a ton of work with his without issue. I do not think the JD110 is particularly weak in the bell housing, I just think it runs a really stout loader and if used like a "rental" you can break it. I would not let that affect a decision to buy one of these. If it isn't already cracked or broken, it is highly unlikely a careful operator will break it. If I didn't already have a skid steer and mini-excavator at home, I'd consider a JD110. I wish Mahindra made a dedicated TLB for the USA market. We sell a ton of backhoes on the smaller Mahindras and folks are happy with these just like the green JD and the Blue NH (as opposed to commercial units). But they are a small farm tractor with a backhoe attachment, not a dedicated machine. You give up some reach and strength for the versatility of being able to quickly dismount the backhoe and attach implements.

I think JCB makes a "midi" 50'ish HP TLB. I've not owned or used one, but that sounds like a good size.

I always wonder why Kubota just owns this market? is it that small?

Very good question.... Must be good "business" reasons though, for Kubota to continue their involvement and to offer 3 different models!

Of course, it doesn't take alot of imagination to visualize a corporate financial strategy meeting at JD when the various divisions trot out their cost-revenue projections...

Let's see.. 8000-9000 AG series machine vs 110TLB? Hmm, where should we invest the shareholders money?

Well, the Ag tractors at about 100 to 200K each, a TLB about 50 to 60K each...

It's meetings like these that keep us busy here, if every company made a perfect tractor (that'll be the day), we here would be out of a hobby.

I'll buy every 8000-9000 tractor you can sell me for $100-200K!! You'll be losing about $150K on every 8000 machine @ $100K and your losses on every 9000 series machine @ $200K would be in the $125K range and up!

Yeah, they're in the $250K - $350K price range!

I priced a new 6130 tractor loaded out came to $176k, no point in me looking at a 8000-9000 series.

Well, I think the point is made! I believe the biggest 9000 series are over 400K now too.

I think we're getting sidetracked though...

After the building is done the hoe will get useless real quick on 4.5 acres.

If you like the 110 buy it and build with it and beat the **** out of it getting your place whipped into shape, then sell it and get a new tractor without a hoe to keep it maintained in the future.

That is what I would do.

Useless backhoe, it is an 1800 lb Counterweight. I used it yesterday to lift the tractor back on the road I slid off plowing and saved a wrecker visit.

Yeah that happens often in California where the OP was asking about.
