Those of you with heavy trailers (10,000# +) that are bumper pull, do you use a load equalizing hitch?

Mine is behind a 6500 truck so no, but I’d think you’d need one behind a pickup. Really a bumper pull is a lousy choice behind a pickup at that weight or more.

No, and I haven't seen the need for anything "I" pull...

To the original question of this thread:

I have numerous trailers, including an Alumina and I really like it!

Being so light, it's really handy and easy to move around when unhooked. It's just easy to pull and I don't have the maintenance of a wood deck trailer... Really like the fold up ramp too...

I also have a PJ trailer that I use to pull a tractor to rotavating jobs, it has been a great trailer too.,

Personally, I think you will like an aluminum trailer for your purpose...

I NEVER trailer off property. So I built a farm wagon. It's got brand new Horst ten ton running gear - Uber heavy main beams - 2x8 removable side walls - 5/4 exterior grade plywood deck.

I bought the optional spring for the tongue on mine...

It was waaaaay well worth what it cost, to keep the tongue up off the ground and make it easier to lift.

In the picture the tongue sits on an empty one gallon paint can. However - getting it on the drawbar and lined up - a completely WEIGHTY matter. One thing is very certain - I'm never going to hurt that tongue.

I have 3 BP trailers that are over 10K. A 22' PJ full tilt bed, a 16' Cross Country dump trailer and a 32' travel trailer. I use an equalizer hitch on the travel trailer and dump trailer but not on the tilt bed. I tow with a 3/4T Chevy crew cab, 4x4, reg box.

I mostly agree with that. I'm thinking about a dump trailer and they can be had in 14,000# deckover in either bumper pull or gooseneck. The bumper pull is cheaper, BUT I agree, it seems it should be gooseneck for that kind of weight, especially for a pickup truck.

Note: I do have an 11,000# bumper pull RV w/ weight distribution and I don't have a problem with it. Add 3,000# and I'd be up to the 14,000# dump. But ... I have to think on this some more.

Are you towing with a SRW truck or a dually? SRW I’d definitely recommend a GN. Even then if I had to move move a 14k load on my bumper pull trailer it would go behind my 6500 not my ton truck. And a GN is a lot more forgiving with weight distribution.

Try and find you a tongue off a gravity flow wagon, they make some that have a mechanism that you can extend the tongue to hook it up then you back up and it locks and off you go. We had two when we were messing with corn and they are time savers and easy to hook up.
