I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Walmarts "SuperTech" brand of oils that they sell is also recycled oil. That's what I have been told at least, I never looked into it......

Re cycled motor oil is not like it was years ago.. back then it was filtered, centrifuged and new additives added.

Today it is re-cracked in a refinery, just as crude is, to produce what is escentially NEW oil.

The Department of Defense has a requirement that all oil they buy be at least 50% recycled. I have not seen oil related failures in the DOD vehicle fleets.

This may be true on bases for the actual military owned and maintained vehicles and battle vehicles. But, i work for the DOD and all our GSA vehicles have oil changed on the local market at a local shop that takes the card (every 7500 miles!). Unless i just happen to get recycled oil at jiffylube or the local shop i use they dont put in 50% recycled. The local guy uses Service pro semi-syn oil in my dodge. As far as a policy Jiffylube got smacked on the wrist and threantned to be put on the black list cause they were upselling the castrol oil and not telling the person, GSA does not pay for oil upgrades just what comes with that shops standard oil change.

Regardless, if they are not saving money using a near pure waste as raw material they are not making the most of the process. Even if as good it should be notably cheaper ... say at least 10%. Then it will be attractive to all - not just the guilt ridden.

This is not the point. The DOD has set a mandate to reduce its consumption of raw materials including fossil fuels. We also are to reduce water and power consumption by like 2014. We lease hybrids which cost more than a smaller suv, were supposed to put e85 in flex vehicles, which i have done. I paid the same amt for it as e10 but get 30% MPG.

The crazy thing is much of it is a pr stunt. My office is at a Dam, we have our own weir and mini generator that turns power for just the dam and our office. There is no storage capacity nor is it hooked to the grid to sell back power like the 7 large generators are in the dam. Its strickly for our power use at the offices. Now that thing runs X gallons an hour regardless of the actual power needs at that moment in time. Yet we just last year put in like 400 CFLs to reduce power consumption!! Thats great but there is no difference as that water will run through the dam anyway weather it makes power for cfls or incandesants its purely a PR and image thing, cause we cant store the saved power that we dont use under this system.

Now for maintence we have to swap to the grid and pay, this is where the savings would come but we dont do this often as it costs thousands of $'s per month to be on the grid.

[ Ick!] The point is you dont participate in scams when you have a choice. Fortunately there are enuf that have a choice to make a difference if they choose not to follow.

Kayo stations used to sell it for 25 cents a quart. Kept it in glass containers with metal nozzles in a rack near the gas pumps.

I do not buy the e85 anymore. It was a test cause i was curious myself as i was sceptical. It took 2 fillups to realize we were not saving. As far as the lightbulbs and waterless urinals that they installed, i have nothing to do with that as i am a forester.

Sound guy, it is a shame that the small generator that is used (i think im right but im not an electrician or engineer) cant sell to the grid. On the other hand its a TINY one the big dogs that they turn at peak times DO sell to the grid as the sole purpose, to the tune of millions of dollars a year.
