IMO it's obscure to hear the term (bless your heart) used as an insult...besides what I previously said about babies, kittens etc...it is most likely heard in place of or along with the words "thank you"...or as a reply when a friend etc. agrees to do a favor or lend a hand doing something...

On a slightly different topic...anyone ever heard the reply (when asking for the time):

"...Time for all dogs to be dead...aren't you glad you're a pup?"

To realize southern hospitality you have to slow down and spend some time in the smaller towns etc... experience all the mom and pop establishments and the citizens...just traveling through states on major roads does not give a well rounded impression...

I suppose.. I do spend some time in inland FL and I don't see it there.. But then again there are mostly out of staters in inland FL most of the time...:laughing:

Very true. Southerners go on and on how rude we "yankees" are, I don't see any region as any more or less hospitable than anyone else. Unfamiliar customs can give the wrong impression.

Curiously, how do groups like the Mennonites or Amish decide what modern technology to embrace and what to scorn? Doesn't always seem like there's a pattern.



Yeah. I have to remind myself when some group of millennials start going on how their ways are so superior to everyone who came before them that our parents/grandparents probably thought the same of us. No matter what generation we're part of.
Every generation makes its mark, for better or worse (and usually a combination of the 2).

Yall tend to be pretty abrasive when you move here uninvited (because of lower taxes), then start acting and voting like your at home. Like you are trying to ruin our home place the same as yours.

There are no absolutes though....

I agree with the premise but "southern hospitality" is only realized in the south...(or where (true) southerners abound)...

True southerners abound here don't they? I don't see the "so called southern hospitality on here either"..

Maybe you have to meet in person to get it, people are people and I find most people no matter where I go are very nice for the most part "in person"..
