I went out to use my Kubota BX today, after not using it for nearly two months, and discovered to my dismay that some critter (likely a mouse) had made a pretty good sized nest on top of the battery. Big project to get it all cleaned out. I'm sure I'm not the only person who's run into that, and it's not even the first time for me. Any defense?

Big problem. Next they will be chewing your wires. I put some traps in a few places when I have to leave mine set outside for a long time.

Trapping mice is an ongoing chore at my place. The outbuilding where various machines are stored is continuously invaded by mice. I use a combination of poisons, but the common mouse traps is my favorite, except for the continuous chore of rebating them. Even in the mild winter that we are experiences here, the mice keep on coming. You are lucky they didn't chew up some wires as daves mentioned above.

Keep the hood open when not in use...Put 4 or 5 dryer sheets around the motor. It works for me.

Just pee on the battery. The smell will keep them away.

(I mean the smell of burning pubic hair and feces :))

Interesting!! I admit I've never heard of that, I might just try that. Thanks.

We had a bird nest on the exhaust manifold of a Farmall A. It was right up against the gas tank. We found it when we were cutting hay and it caught on fire. It was a little exciting for a bit and dad had some burned fingers pulling it out of there. Ed

I use WD40,good heavy spraying here and there.

I sprinkle a few drops of concentrated peppermint oil under the hood. This seems to work well in repelling mice. And, when you start up the tractor, it smells like a candy store! You have to do this every month or so.
