Re: vinyl siding for a pole building
( What you don't understand is that a lot of times a siding is a owners preference. Not everyong likes metal walls for some reason or the other and some people like vinyl because they can match their house with it. There is nothing wrong with using vinyl on a pole barn if it is done correctly and while it may not be common in your area it might be in others. )
I musta said my point wrong. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Oops.
I certainly understand folks liking different textures for their wall coverings, and vinyl is great stuff. I didn't mean to knock it, if I sounded that way.
Here in southern Minnesota where big sheds are nice & snow loads are heavy, you can build a stick-wall building or a pole-wall building, both are common.
The stick-wall building will almost always have vertical 2x lumber to attach siding to your building.
The pole-wall building will almost always have horizontal 2x lumber to attach siding to your building.
When designing the building, before building or buying anything, it's probably a good iddea to figure out what you want for siding, and then pick the type of building design that matches up with the type of siding you want.
If you want vinyl, and a fine choice it is, a stick-built building will make it much easier, and probably be an over-all cheaper building design.
If you want vertical metal or wood siding, a pole building will likely be an overall cheaper design.
Nothing wrong with any of those choices, but forcing horizontal siding on a pole building, or forcing vertical siding on a stick-built building adds to the overall cost & design. Not that there is anything wrong with _that_ either, it's not my money, and I've certainly done stranger things in my life....
Just wanted to mention that as a practical thing, plannig for the whole building first & matching up your exterior cover to the buiolding style will help save money. No big deal to me.
Hope that helps?
As a farmer, I need to count my nickels, I get nothing extra. Food production is shifting off shore from the USA, EPA & community restricions & insurance are costing a bundle, grain prices are going down, fuel, fertilizer, seed, iron keeps going up. I don't get any extra money to spend on miss-matched building designs. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
But, I didn't mean to suggest anyone should use one type of product or another. Just thought a little early planning would help out.
