Well at least we have this medium to communicate with folks, and of course the phone. I have my radio to go to If I get too bored over here. :)
My best friend's dad was a big ham radio guy in the 60s. Always found it fascinating and a bit spooky that he had a huge antenna with guy wires mounted on their roof. Only one I ever saw. Thought he might be FBI.

I never got into the radio hobby. Maybe I need to take you up on some of this technology considering the current circumstances? :D

You are so confused and mistaken...I assure you...you did not hurt my feelings...just the opposite, it made me laugh out loud (it was like calling the potus humble)...that's why I questioned your understanding of the word...

I was not trying to "take a dig" at you...I was merely explaining that photographs are not really avatars...if you go back and look I was not necessarily addressing the post to anyone in particular...it is a common misconception among TBN members...

So once again I will try to explain it...Think of an avatar the same as a game marker (like the car in Monopoly) they represent a player...
Might I suggest you take up said misunderstanding with Muhammad (the site owner) and VBullitin?
They call the picture next to your name when you post an avatar:

IMO, your avatar here on TBN is whatever you choose to use In that location to represent you. Be it a photo, or a made up image.

It can come in handy to alleviate boredom. It is a hobby like any other, you get out of it what you put into it. But it is kinda technical. Although many participants aren't really very technical. The are just in it for the social aspect or perhaps public service.. Truthfully ham radio is about 1000 hobbies all with different interests. There is just the common thread of radio running thru them. It is a great avenue to keep learning, and I also enjoy helping others. I have mentored probably a hundred in the last couple of years since retirement. I help them with getting their stations set up and mastering certain techniques. The hobby can be as uncomplicated or as technical and complicated as you want to make it.

If you read my bio you will see I'm a sucker. Too many hobbies as it is and I am a DIY guy. Why hire someone when I can do it... not as good, in more amount of time, more frustration and cussing? But I end up with more tools! Can't wait to retire so I can screw around more than I do now. Just praying the market will come back and beyond before I quit or get booted. 5+ years was the plan but afraid to look at the moment.

I tried to take a beginning HAM class a few years back... the only way to sign up was to email the instructor. I could never get his address to work, it kept kicking back with an error message.
I assumed that it was my first test, and I failed. :D

Glad you found time and a cool head to explain it before I read it.

Some folks obviously don't get the concept (or definition) of an avatar...and why they call it an avatar and not just a photo...

BTW...that is why there is software (apps) that are written specifically designed to create avatars...they are not meant to just crop or resize an image...

In my view, Homeschooling is not the same as Distance Learning. One is the parents doing much of the work, the other is the same paid professional teachers they would see in school, just via a screen instead of in a classroom.

I can see home schooling as being a very viable system. On the other hand, a quote without comment, on the news one mother asked the newscaster "Now WHO is going to babysit for me if the school is closed?"
