In fact they are made by the brand name folks.

Yep, it's Warren. The same company supplying many name brand labels and private brand labels at stores everywhere.

A little mouse that worked at Warren (a tribologist/blender I have known for a couple of years) a couple of years ago said that Commiemart uses diferent suppliers depending on the geographical location in the US. Depending on what 1/4 of the US you are in it could be a different supplier. They use regionaly/geographically located suppliers to help speed up the supply chain delivery time.

So...there is NO chance of "counterfeit" imported oil getting into the system? It's US made right? Meets the latest "stringent" specs? What's the problem with WalMart oil then? Besides hatred of the store...

I think it's been already said b-4. Better base stocks, better additives, etc, means better quality oil. If you pay $ 1.50 for oil, you get lower quality oil . AS with any product You pay more you get better. You pay more for oil, you get better oil. plain & simple

Hmmmm, let me see, a counterfeiter is going to make a $1.00 copy of a quart of Walmarts store brand oil and make $0.10 profit -> or are they going to make a $1.00 copy of Mobil 1 and make $3.50 profit? Hmmmm, I wonder....

Maybe you guys should "wake up and smell the coffee".

Other than my hatred of the store I don't think you will find I ever said there was anything wrong with their oil. There is oil that meets spec and then there is oil that exceeds spec. Don't forget the spec is just a minimum requirement that must be met. If your happy with it, use it. If you want something better get something else.

But didn't you say in an earlier post that each time the spec is updated that it's SO radical that ALL oils need to be reformulated? Even the very high end, high cost ones? So, if my engine only requires an earlier grade, then wouldn't it follow that ANY new spec oil would be MORE than what my engine needs? Probably MUCH more? And wouldn't it also follow that I'd be wasting ALL the extra cost by going with the more expensive oil?

I'm thinking of it this way...an analogy... I have a bolt that needs to be put on an OLD tractor. There is NO torque spec for it, just tighten it down. I have my choice of using just about anything to tighten it down. Now, a new tractor comes out but now it needs this same bolt needs to be torqued down to a certain spec. Now I NEED a torque wrench for THIS tractor. I have a choice of a plain old dial or a fancy, much more accurate, digital torque wrench. But, a torque wrench is overkill for that old tractor. If I keep using the old tractor I can use EITHER torque wrench because, I really don't NEED a torque wrench at all! I could get by with a closed end wrench, a crescent wrench, or a pipe wrench, but they "don't make them anymore", the "standards" have been raised, all that is available are torque wrenches. ANY torque wrench will do for my needs. Does this make sense? With oils too? If the standard has gone up THAT MUCH that ALL oils need to be reformulated, then ANY new oil should be overkill for an engine requiring plain old "old fashioned" oil.

One of the main things that change when oil is reformulated is to make it more "emissions" friendly. The new standards reduce heavy metals and other additives that can poison a catalytis system and raise tailpipe emissions. High quality lubricants usually meet most of the new spec's long before they come out. They just have to reformulate their product by reducing certain additives and replacing them with other ones.

"I have a bolt that needs to be put on an OLD tractor. There is NO torque spec for it, just tighten it down."

Actually there is a torque spec. Every bolt manufactured has a torque spec. It may not be in the service manual but there are standard torque specs for every size and grade of bolt, doesn't matter what it goes on.

Your free to use whatever you like. I myself prefer to use the best I can get. In the long run it pays for itself in reduced maintenance cost, downtime and repair cost.
