( I've been using Supertech dino 5W30 in my 2002 Toyota Tundra since it was new. I change it every 5,000 miles.

I'll let you all know when my engine self-destructs and leaves me straded on the side of the road. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

When my little B3030 goes..it'll be because of a bad part..not lack of maintainence.

BTW....Ive been in and around Wheatland. Does the wind EVER stop blowing there?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When you say you tried it and tested it, exactly what are you saying? You used it in a combuston engine and it didn't meet your expectations? How did you test it and what were the results of your test that gave it a failing grade?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

After 4000 miles ,I had the local Cat dealer perform an oil analysis. The test came back showing all the adds used up. TBN 1.5. at 4000 miles tells me the oil is junk. The TBN should have been higher than that at 4000 miles on a low milage engine with no problems.other add. #'s were also low leaving my engine with very little protection.I did a search & warren & Q.S. makes the stuff at wal mart specs.

4000 miles, what about at 3000 ? Also what was the application and how hard was the engine worked, Gas/diesel, etc....
Need more input.

Well, if you can't put 4000 easy miles on synthetic oil , I don't need to use it . That's the reason I went to synthetic was to get longer miles b- 4 drain.I guess you can go 3000 & be ok . I don't know. The reason I went to synthetic was to get longer drains & better protection & supertech didn't do either for me . A good synthetic should go 4000 miles easy. The oil was in a Dodge pu gasoline engine to & from work ,no heavy use .In about another 1000 miles I will let you know ( if interested) how a group 4 oil that is in it now will test & I'll bet ,the TBN will hold up better on the group 4 than the group 3 from walmart. You may have different results with supertech as every vehicle is different, but if you use it for longer than 3000 miles I would have the oil tested.

Hey Kenmac,

Please post the results for us. I have often wondered how Wal-Mart could sel it so cheap.

Oh Well!!

Take care,

Any quality Group IV or V synthetic (not including SuperTech /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) would easily go 10-12,000 miles in a diesel (with or without turbocharger and EGR) and double that in a gasoline engine.

The main limiting factor with the diesel is the TBN and the soot concentration. The TBN is also the main limiting factor with the gasser, but oxidation and nitration levels would also be much higher due to elevated operational temperatures.

My mistake then, I thought we were talking about Supertech dino oil.

So, basically, if you follow your maintenance schedule and change your oil and filter every 3k miles, then it should not matter what oil is used? I know newer vehicles state longer intervals between oil changes, but I still stick to what works-every 3k miles, I change the oil and filter. I use 10w-30 Castrol and so far no premature engine wear on any vehicles.

Ive used Castrol 10W-30 for 18-19 years..changed every 5K miles. Never had a bit of problem. IN FACT..I would have used it in my new Kubota..but its NOT "diesel rated"...so that made me go on the hunt for something that was.

Is it good?? I have no idea. It was rated very good once upon a time. But there are people using it under MUCH more severe conditions than Id even attempt and they arent having any problems......it will do me for sure.
