Walmart Supertech oil

"No wonder they call it oil ANALysis."

Its half truths and half BS! And NEVER think that "numbers dont lie"....because its like a tech reading a chest X-Ray. He dont see a thing..and the next see's disaster!

Only engine I ever knew of that ran a "bazillion" miles was an old 1954 Checy...6cyl-Powerglide..owned by a one armed mechanic. Its ran close to 250K miles..and the ONLY oil he ever used was what the guys are the service station ( me included) SAVED for him from oil changes from OTHER CARS!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
He'd use IT and install a new filter every 5K miles. he finally died in 1989 and the car was still running.

I find it amusing that people that "hint" all the time of one particualr brand of oil and filters seem so adamant about "items" about the size of 3 helium light bands "clogging" up other people engines. Its not even funny...its SAD!

I know several truckers & they have their oil tested on a regular basis to see if they can put a few more miles on the oil b-4 changing. They also look at all the wear #s etc to see how the oil is holding up.The Cat dealer says that truckers come in all the time the & have them draw a oil sample for testing, in fact oil testing is part of Cats regular maintance program.

For "extended" oil change intervals...then yes..definately. But if the time/milage intervals SPECIFIED in the engine manual is used..then its not needed. They may do it anyway...just to see whats "floating" around inside their motors

If you change your dino oil every 2-3000 miles & don't care to know the condition of your oil at that milage & don't care to know what's going on inside your engine as far as wear ,condition of your oil at that milage, etc,. Then, I agree with you that you probably don't need to have an oil analysis performed.

every 2-3000 miles huh?....LMAO! Awe well.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Besides..this is completely off the thread to begin with

Hey kenmac, all you have to do is use Rotella. You never have to change that. Just siphon it out before you trade that unit and use the oil for life in your next machine. Heck, I've heard that you can take an engine with a broken crank and the rod sticking through the side of the block, add Rotella, and it will run like a champ for at least 75 million miles or more. You should know that, right? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Me, I'll just stay with my Supertech for the same money. After all, I wasted all my money with the worthless labs that proved scientifically (who believes science anyway) that it is pretty well the same quality as Rotella but just doesn't have that cool name. I mean, gees, if I believed those stupid labs I'd be wasting my money on some group 4 or group 5 full synthetic.

Not only that, who's going to tear into their engine at the first sign of a few ppm of lead, copper or other wear metal creeping up?
Most people are simply going to keep using the engine and hope for the best. If there are no audible knocks, the compression is good and it doesen't burn oil, who gives a rip what's in the oil as far as analysis is concerned?
What's the point of losing sleep over it?

Honestly................

I wouldn't tear my engine down for a few ppm of metals . I would keep using the engine , but I would consider changing my drain habbits , or going from a group 1 or 3 oil to a group 4 or 5 synethetic . Then, I would hope for the best.

There seem to be a mindset here that oil analysis is about the oil. It"s not - it's about the engine, motor, gearbox, etc. Testing for wear particles & contaminants is about predicting component wear & eventual failure. While you can save a few cents by going longer between oil changes, you won't save enough to cover the cost of the analysis. However towing a big rig or heavy construction equipment to a repair facility, not to mention failure related downtime, will pay for many analyses. I work at a nuclear power plant where scheduled time off line costs over $1 million per day & unscheduled costs almost double. Our goal is to run at 100% power uninterrupted for 18 months. We need to know the status of our mechanical systems at all times. While oil analysis may not benefit small operators it is essential to big business. For what it's worth we also send samples to multiple labs so their mistake won't shut us down.

And isnt ALL OF THIS off the subject of "WalMart SuperTech" oil?
If someone wants to "debate" "oil analysis" to be good or bad...why isnt there a thread pertaining to that?

IMHO..I dont think that ANYONE things than oil analysis is a total waste...but I can sure see that there is a LONG string of people that post "about oils" that must be PARANOID about whats going on inside their engines.

It aint rocket science..and the engine designers left enough leeway in the designs so that a consumer dont have to worry about the "small SH**" Do maintainence PER THE BOOK ( or even more) and the engine is going to live as long as it was designed for..and most probably LONGER. And it aint nuclear power plants either!
