Want to move from 425 to 1430 or 1845

I know - thanks for the input - I have to find all of this
out - but I guess that is what separates us - right?

Normal consumers go down to the local dealer and just buy something -

Not us - this is half the fun - we find something uncommon
and put up with any shortfalls either in the machine or in the Company building it - because the machines are really cool
and we are stubborn

I guess that is what makes me a lawn and tractor junkie

Believe me - I can't tell you how many times my wife
has asked me why I don't just go down to the John Deere dealer
I just look at her - she just doesn't get it

Good thing she has no idea what i spend on this stuff

Yes I know - it is great fun - but a pain sometimes when you really have to hunt for info - when our friends in Tazewell are worried about competitors

The tractor does climb the slope - but i still think the engine has much more to give than the pump is using - I really don't think I can stall this engine - not even close

I don't like going cross ways - it is just one of those
"not confortable in the shorts feelings"

Do you know anyone with a 1430?

I have been looking around at older postings - some
interesting info out there - I got to go
through that whole "best mountain tractor" discussion

Duane - thanks for the ideas

you mentioned that based on some rough numbers - the unit
is really at its limit at 20 degrees

- how did you figure that
out - did you back into it - do you have to know either the pump or wheel motor displacement - ie we know the unit travels at 8mph at full throttle / full pump displacement
right - but what about the rest - I guess it is fairly complicated
you probably have to factor in engine hp / torque and an allowance for the PTO running with the 60 inch deck

I know you are an engineer - I'll probably have to get my dad to help me - he is an engineer - What else do you take into consideration?weight, torque, hydraulic pressure, slope,
hydraulic flow - ie rpm? friction? -

uggggg - this is why I left physics in college and became
one of those finance guys - I do have a math minor but forgot
most of what I learned

By the way - I checked my manual today - they do show the relief pressure in there 4000psi - on the trans pump
plus charge pressure (don't remember that one) nor do i know what it is -

anyway 4000 seems fairly high - wonder what the unit and wheel motors are rated for - Oh if we only had the model number

as instigator of that mess, I just want to hop in here and wish you well in your upgrade. If I had not bought a used 2445, I definately would have gone with the 1430. Nice package!

just last night i had my 425 on a slope that is more than 20% ... and in the olden days 30% was what pt offered the 425 as hillside capable. we in the business have, at times on some of our customers properties to push the envelope, to get a job done. But in our daily checks this morning .... the pushing the envelope cost me a new air filter ... Kohler engine don't like to go much more than 20% otherwise your are starting to lubricate your airfiltering system.

The biggest load is gravity pulling the unit, operator and mower down the 20 degree incline. The wheel torque needs to overcome that. Rolling resistance, acceleration, drawbar pull etc also add to all of that.

Ask PT specifically what the transmission pump relief is supposed to be set at. Since their recommedation was to increase system pressure, what pressure would they recommend and how would they do it. The instruction manual shows ports to measure "Tram pressure".

The Kohler Command 25HP engine has a limit of 25 degrees. <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.kohlerengines.com/ads-cgi/viewer.pl/pdf/tp_2474_h.pdf> Click here for the operator's manual </A> at the Kohler website and go to page 7. It is near the bottom in the right column.

Also listed is the engine running on after truning off the key question several people had. Look on the same page nearer to the top and it recommends stopping all PTO implements and idling the engine for 30 - 60 seconds.

I know that (wife) look, most here have experienced it with regard to "tool" purchases...

...just wondering...perhaps it's a GOOD thing that PT doesn't provide the info we need, for if they did, we would have to sign a NON-DISCLOSURE agreement at purchase and we would not be able to SHARE this info on a public forum...

I did notice the "run on" as well - but I have been using the
higher octane fuel and it stopped - I thought it was just because the engine has a little higher compression ratio

Hey I just came in from snapping some pictures of my unit.(home today with this weather - was suppose to go down to NYC for meetings which got cancelled)

I am looking forward going out and playing with the machine in the snow today - called the plow guy and cancelled him for the season

Now I wish I could have given it a nice bath - but the weather
has not been helping me out lately

Also, with the snow I didn't want to take all the implements
out of the shed and use my friends camera out in the snow. I did grab the backhoe and take that one outside.

Note - you can see the shed that I am almost done building
which I had to build just for my Power Trac - big project
I put a second floor in for extra storage - I made it 24 x 12

Well - I am going to try and get the camera back to my friend so he can downlaod and e-mail me the pictures - I will try and post them later

Funny - wives - she just asked me why on earth I was
out in the snow taking pictures of my tractor - of course she has no idea that I am even considering selling it and buying yet a bigger one - she also thinks i am nuts for building a small house next to our house to keep it in -

Yes the Power Trac guys - I'm surprised they don't make you go through detectors to make sure you don't bring in any cameras, videos or recorders and steal trade secrets - You got to love them - they really are nice people

Maybe the mining business gave them a few bad marriages. - Also customer service and marketing are probably not core competencies in that business
