And you did this by your self???? In my case the minds willing but the body says no way:) I'm still working on my horse trailer (welding) and trying to get it done before the so called Texas winter.

I've done 99% of it on my own. I did call in a friend to help set the rafters on the monitor section. And my father in law did have a hand in helping to build the exterior doors while he was up for a visit. My wife did help with the stain. Other than that, I've been on my own. It's taken a full year of Sundays (weather permitting) and the last few weeks I've been working on it a few hours most days after work.

At this point, it's been fun and rewarding, but I'll sure be glad when it's done. The only major items left are the tack room, loft stairs, and probably some type of shavings bin. Oh and the stall mats, only because I hate handling and setting those things (buying them is painful anymore as well)

Steel,
It's my first time to the "Projects" forum. What a treat it has been to read through your thread and end up with the almost finished project at the end of it all. My wife is ready to move in if you'll build one for us. I'll help on weekends... honest!

Thanks so much for sharing your labor and talent with all of us.

This has to be one of the "all time best" threads.

Poor guy. What the heck are you gonna do now? :D

Has it really been a month since I've updated this???

At any rate, not much progress to report. A few other projects along with hunting season put the barn on the back burner for a few weeks. An upcoming trip back "home" to see family will further slow progress.

I did, however, manage to build and hang the interior stall sliders. These are the same 3-ply material as the stall walls. The only difference is they are 5" faced boards and the outer board is cedar instead of fir. This was a matter of what was available to me at the time. But, I do like the contrast with the stall walls. I still need to trim out the top block that I used to join the top cross board to the vertical runners. I just didn't trust a traditional joint with that much weight hanging off of it and the stress of horses.

Man that is going to be a shame to put a smelly old horse in there. Looks great.

Steeldust

I just found this thread and I had to go back and see all the picks.
I just wanted to say OUTSTANDING WORK! You have created a work of art that will last for generations. I like the traditional wood look over the steel pre-fabs anyday. Hope your horses appreciate your hard work!

Wow! What a gorgeous barn! I am glad to read I am not alone, in considering it a work of art! Guess that explains my liking this forum so much. Really fine! Brian

Not much to update, a trip out of town, cold weather, and the holidays have kept me away from working on the barn. I did however pass a significant milestone. Over the last week, we've seen around 18" of snow total. That is unusual for this area, in fact, I believe it's a record for the total amount on the ground. The barn has handled it great, the 5/12 pitch metal has shed the snow off of the lower roofs and I haven't noticed any of the purlins sagging or anything else out of the ordinary.

Taken this morning, some has melted off, but still nearly a foot deep and quite wet and heavy.

A couple of other pics of the property, just because.
