Ken ,yes this scam of taking the numbers down and later checking the balance is true.A family member works retail
In reference to my first post about Duncan Donuts, I received a reply with a telephone number to call
I called and they brought up my email.. She verified the store, and said that they are supposed to check all credit card transaction with a license I said ok fine. There was some silence, and she came back and asked if that was ok. I told her fine, if thats the policy of DD then I would except it. I don't got there often and wont be buying any more cards from them.
She asked if she has answered the question, and I asked if it was the DD policy , which she replied 'YES".
She then went on to give me the store number and that a complaisant was going to be filed with that store.
HHMM Its the corporate policy and the store did as they should, yet "they ' are going to file a complaint with the store.
what part of this don't they get.?She went on to tell me that she personally doesn't sign any of her cards, and that requires the clerk to ask for ID.
I informed her that discover card said that if it isn't signed, then it isn't valid.
Anyway, the corporate office filing a complaint for someone doing the policy, is like A cop being fired because he arrested a bank robber.
Oh well, maybe ill get a free coffee.
Its kind of funny, that when you call these places and simply ask what the policy is. they immediately get defensive.
Oh and when they looked and compared my signature to the one on the pad at Home Depot, she said thanks Doctor Al. I smiled, and said how did you know I was a doctor..
the clerks can at least tell if your the right sex, and f the signature is somewhat the same. At least they made the effort.
Alan
After some thought I return to edit. I gave it some thought and I wonder, if because most people don't spend 40 dollars at DD thats why they check. this would seem somewhat reasonable if it were the case.where 40 dollars at a wal mart or gas station would be peanuts.
Just a thought.
