I've called 2 dealers who are the next closest to me. Both have said they would take the tractor and fix it. I told them both my situation and they both said technically New Holland could force the dealer to do the work but do I really want them touching it after all this. They were both interested in getting a new customer for future service and purchases which I like and expected from the original dealer.

I'm going to think about this but I suspect I will be moving it in the next few days so I can get back to using it. I also think I am going to pursue this issue further with New Holland and the state's attorney general as I feel it is a total joke that a consumer can be held for ransom like this. Boo to blue.

Don't be too quick to second guess yourself, there'll be plenty of time for that later. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'll bet you could poll 1000 buyers of any product (especially machinary) and find a percentage that wouldn't buy that product again.

I've had to go beyond service managers / area reps on more than one occasion to get a satisfatory resolution. If it's gonna cost me, I'm going to be one squeaky wheel.

My repairman came today...they ordered the wrong part and brought the wrong size deck pin. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif He brazed the old lift arm back together and said that the smaller deck pin would work, but the mower would hang crooked when lifted. He said I could go ahead and use it until they could order the proper parts and return...you guessed it...early next week. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif But, at least they're not trying to charge me! I think I'd move your tractor to another dealer, too, and mark it up to experience.

I work for a Autodealer as a Tech ( Subaru ) wetech get paid on a flat rate system. Let me tell you that warranty does not pay close to what it should pay. for example ear wheel bearing retail = 3.0 but warranty = 0.8 head gaskets warranty = 5.5 retail is = 9.0 the list goes on and on. Then the manufacturue can do warranty audits and reject claims for silly reasons that have nothing to do with the actual repair job. Diagnostic time is not covered example a car comes in with a check engine light. Tech spends 1 hour tracing the problem to determine the knock sensor is bad warranty will only pay 0.3 to replace the part.In the auto business the tech looses and the dealership breaks even on warranty work. HOWEVER we can no deny warranty because the car was bought someplace other then our dealership and we can not make up the rules. The only time we can deny warrantyis if we can prove abuse or neglect and often it is almost impossible to prove. last week i had a legacy towed in that was still under warranty it had overheated and cooked the motor. 41 miles before the tow it was at a jiffylube they claimed coolant was full and set to -30 I get the car 41 miles later and it is 1 gallon low and the radiator cap is loose. Subaru warranty the motor I did a full rebuild for 11.5 hours. I do know that when it comes to getting warranty work covered espcially work that is questionable or if the age or miles are just out of warranty it really helps if the vehicle had been maintained regularly at the dealer. I hope I get good service on my Tractor in the event I shall need any.

I picked up the tractor last week from the dealer who did not want my business. I took it to the new dealer this morning and he says this is not covered under warranty. Its going to be $1000 to fix the whole thing. I am going to go ahead with it as I need to get it fixed. This whole thing seems like an odd and expensive lesson of some sort.

Next Chapter :

The selling dealer has agreed to send up the 2 cylinders that need to be replaced. The fixing dealer has agreed to use those and just charge me for labor. Maybe things are getting better.

I talked to the selling dealer today and they have ordered the parts for me. He also told me they had this escalated to their area rep who has contacted the boss of the area rep up here and also NH corporate.

Next thing I know the area rep up here calls me and wants to make sure everything is all right. When I told him I moved the tractor he was glad that everything was being resolved. This is the same jerk who called me 2 weeks ago and basically told me to move the tractor and wanted no part of helping me. I guess his boss being involved changed his mind.

I've been out of commission now for 5 weeks.

The worst part about the New Holland reps in New England is that New Holland thinks New England is a good training ground and we always get the ones fresh from college once they are trained they get moved on so they dont really know alot sorry to say.

I picked up my tractor yesterday after about 8 weeks. I'm taking it to New Hampshire this weekend to finish some long overdue projects.

Final Scorecard on this issue :

Tarheel Tractor : A+ -- Really went to bat for me - supplied parts and made phone calls on my behalf

WesCo Tractor : A+ -- Top notch dealership who kept me informed and did a great job helping me out here. They have all my future business

New Holland : C -- I can only think that by allowing this sort of thing by dealers it weakens the overall brand.

The dealer in Berlin whose name I will not mention : F -- Kept the tractor for 2 weeks, then informed me of their policy. Obviously did not want my business and should have told me that when I called them about the issue in the first place.
