The most responsive midi excavator sales guy so far in my area sells Case. He told me about how they've been in business for hundreds of years and they're American and their stuff holds up better than, say, Yanmar. That's why Yanmars cost less, he says.

Then tonight I read that Case doesn't even make its own excavators anymore. So, wow, that changes things. He coulda mentioned that little detail.

Looking at their infogalactic page, it looks like they manufacture only a few machines in the USA. Case CE - Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core

If I'm going to buy an imported machine, at least I want to know the truth about where it's made. I know Hitachi makes good midi excavators, I'm not biased against imports. I just like the truth.

If you look at the I.D. plate on most machinery, it will tell you where the machine was produced.

I think there is a law about that. ;-)

I don't know what all Case IH makes or doesn't make, but at least some (if not all) their compact utility tractors are made by LS. The Case Farmall 40C is the same exact tractor as my LS XR4140. As is the New Holland Boomer 40. 3 tractors, all the same, made in the same factory on the same assembly line by the same Koreans, different colors, two expensive, one cheap. The cheap one (LS) comes with a FEL, two rear remotes, and draft control all standard, whereas Case and NH make you pay extra for that. Apparently those are really expensive red & blue paint jobs.

SL&H

SAME Lamborghini & Hrlimann.

All roll off the Italian assembly line . But Tony in the paint room decides which is which by the color in his spray bucket.
Then Francisca puts on the appropriate grill emblem as Pepi pounds in the drive screws for the mgf. label.

It's a global economy. Brand "affliction" is you problem.

I thought Case made their own small excavators, but just repainted the larger ones. Deere does this with most of their construction equipment. Cat only does this with a few things. Pretty sure all of Komatsu is made by them. The dealer covers all the warrantee and parts.

Most sales people don't know what they are talking about. Had one at the Ford dealer tell me all the F150s came with independent rear suspension once. He learned that speel about the Ranger and carried it through the line.

Current Case and NH mini excavators, as I understood from my NHCE rep, are a design licensed from Hyundai but built in a true CNH facility in Italy. The older Case/NH mini excavators from a few years ago were from Kobelco, I think. Other than the instrument clusters going bad occasionally, the Hyundai units seem to be reliable and are very comfortable to operate. Nice cab on the enclosed units, as far as a mini ex goes. The New Holland E57C or Case CX57C actually has a pretty spacious and modern cab (auto AC, bluetooth, camera-ready screen, heated seat, etc).

CNH mini ex machines have been outsourced from day one. Parts have been Uber expensive and hard to obtain in a timely manner since day one. I don’t see that changing any time soon as they seem unable or unwilling to keep a stable OEM supplier. There are plenty of manufacturers in that market with reliable machines, stable dealer networks and good or better support.
