Have the road commettee send him a letter to correct what he's doing or please stop.

The letter actually sounds like a better idea. You mind be able to also send him some technical literature from dirtandgravelroads.org to educate him that excessive speed damages the road.

Or have the old lady who used to plow the road make an instruction video on how to plow it right and send it to him. :D

I think Rox is on the right track. Let him save face. Anything else will trend towards more hard feelings.

Too bad he seems like a bit of a knob. You have a choice, either live with it or escalate the authority of your position as others have indicated. It seems you have enough information to confirm that he won't respond unless he feels he must.

I hate it when some folks just decide they don't want to play nice. (My job deals with supervision a lot of awkward individuals, you can waste a lot of time trying to persuade them after you have enough data to know it's a lost cause).

Such a little thing that should, in normal circumstances be so easy to fix.

Good luck to you.

None of us have met him or have a real feel for your relationship with this guy.

There was a man in our community who just passed that had an uncanny ability to remain courteous and not to overreact. He might strongly disagree with someone else, but he was never disagreeable. He seemed to know when to speak and when to wait for a better opportunity. People respected him and valued his opinion. If a guy like that told me I was messing up the road, I'd be embarrassed and have to listen to him.

Sometimes people will accept the facts when presented in the right way at the appropriate time by the right person. Is there someone else available besides you who would have a better chance of friendly persuasion or is this a job for you? Is there someone else who could smooth things over? Invite your pastor over for dinner with both of you?

Rox and 2manyrocks, my hat goes off to you both. Very good advice.

With most people, just being cordial and building a relationship helps. Other times a person of influence is required. That's why I like visiting this site. So much more than just tractors. Advice in life too.
