This is the one time I wish there was an inspection. We are in the country so no inspections. The builder doesn't think we should tear it out either. As pointed out, I think the S trap would plug before the 3" riser. I read where some say the 3" would result in a higher water level in the pipe, thus allowing the solids to float better. The wider pipe lets the fluid bypass the solids, which in turn dry in the pipe.

Jheeze, would sure rather be talking about my kubota........

The water level in the pipe has nothing to do with your home that comes into play for grading long runs underground where the pipe is graded so the water doesn't run ahead of the solids.

If the 4" main line is adequate, I see no reason to upsize the 3" risers for individual toilets feeding the 4" main. Personally, I would not go through the aggravation and added expense tearing up a brand new slab at this point.

if it passed inspection does not mean crud. inspector may of not been paying attention / just showed up and signed and went about their day.

if you think something is up. get a couple other bids from other plumbers in there. that know the local codes.

there very well could and most likely be a permit needed. verify that a permit was even pulled. and that inspection was done. it is most likely part of "roughing" in the plumbing before concrete or like went down on the pipes. and then most likely 1 or a couple more times plumbing is inspected as home gets built.

other issue.... is when 1 or more toilet gets flushed, or shower gets used, or bathroom sink to kitchen sink gets used. each thing adds up and can predict per the numbers size of piping throughout the system.

hopefully some cleanouts were put in place throughout the length in case something happens.

Ain't that the truth! My house in the mountains "passed" the plumbing inspections. Then I asked "what does this drain go to???" Second tub drain wasn't hooked up... :banghead:

No inspections out here in the middle of no where. I trusted the builder to handler.

I've been plumbing houses for 40+ years. My locality requires inspections. 3" risers serving a maximum of two toilets has always met plumbing code requirements. I've never had any trouble with 3" lines clogging. Unless there is more to the story than you have told us til this point, leave the slab alone, what you have will be fine.

It seems many people don't believe that. Maybe if you used caps.

At my house in Fairfax, VA I almost need a permit to change the toilet paper. Down in rural Mississippi NO inspections.

Nothing else to the story. Builder dropped that news on me Saturday. I plan on talking to the new plumber directly to understand his concern better. So far, I think 3" is fine based on the opinions so far. Builder only said he thought the plumber was concerned with flushing. Thanks for the insight guys.

Seems like now that the builder may have actually FIRED THE WRONG PLUMBER?
